I have twin Volvo Penta KAD 300. The port engine is dropping power and losing revs. I thought it was the fuel filters blocking the fuel, so I changed them. Still no change.
Any advise .
Any advise .
Turbo problem?
Yup , take off the elbow and have a look .there will be a few mm gap between the blades and housing -tips burnt off
Two reasons
1- made of meted down milk bottle tops- poor quality metal really -blame VP
2- EGT, too high for too long , you have canned it and burn,t out the tips .
What cruise rpm do you normally use ?
How many hours ? We know kad 300 ceased production in 2004 /2005
Hi , if it's you who text me yesterday I'm sorry I cannot travel to Galway.
Did you fit a new stop solenoid?
Check the boost pressure .
Re calibrate the throttle lever, it's in the manual how to do it.
Do a boost check.
Check the o rings on the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler.
Check the intercooler housing for cracks especially at the rear.
Check the turbo shaft for play and does it spin freely?
On my kad300s the turbos can be felt at around 3000rpm
Ash
I'm going to check all the suggestions during the week. I can do basic maintenance , but this might be a bit detailed for me.
What damage, if any can be done by continuing to use..also something I did not mention before is that there seems to be a smell of oil after use. (Maybe paranoia )
Check your PM I have the solution
Ok after contacting Volvo Paul my problem seems to be solved. I fired a unit to the controls as recommended by Paul and it seems to have.worked. No loss in revs and all seems to be working fine. I think it's there to stabilize the system . The unit is called a SPM.
Thanks Paul.
Hi,
I have a similar issue to yours. are you able to tell me what the SPM unit is, looks like, and where it is fitted in the system.
I'd like to see if I have it already fitted or if it is something i can retro add to my 2004 KAD300's
Simond
There is no need to retro fit this item.
What make and model of boat do you have?
Hi Paul,
We have a Gobbi 425sc with KAD300's and EDC controls.
