Hi
I attempted to remove the pressure cap on top of the heat exchanger on my Penta MD2040 to check the water level and the whole thing came off in my hand. Please see attached photo. There seems to be a flange that fits into the heat exchanger and into which the pressure cap screws into. It looks as though it is a pressure fit which has some kind of sealant round it. Has anyone come across this before and does it mean I need a new heat exchanger or is there an easy way to fix it.
Many thanks in advance
Ian

Take it to a backstreet radiator repair place, looks like a simple clean and braze job...

Depends what the HE is made of.

The problem has featured on here before but I dont remember what solutions were suggested.

I have posted previously with a fix for this.. I'll try a search from my phone later... it's an aluminium bolt on replacement if I remember correctly.

I had a similar issue and I got a pressure top neck with a thread on the screwed into the top of the heat exchanger. I screwed it in with loctote.

I was also offered and aluminium weld on neck but did not have the heat exchanger close by so went for the screw in one.

I have a similar heat exchanger on a Volvo MD22. My cap didn't fall off, but I was aware of a tiny weep of coolant. To be on the safe side, I bought the one on Martin_J's post #7. I cut off the old cap fitting, ground the alloy flat, drilled and tapped two holes for the new fitting. Now perfect.

Cool... I'm definitely going to put a couple on my spares list now... (The second for when I come across somebody else with a leaky cap fitting)...

Thanks NormanS
