Hi I am very new to this I hope I can help with some informative answers but for now I need your help We have a 3 year old FP catamaran that has been out of the water for 2 years re COVID we have found both our Volvo engines water cooler area have corroded the coolant has become practically solid the tubes are ok but the casing corroded and need replacing No one has a real answer for me the inverters weren’t left on the coolant was topped up one kind not mixed the engines were started every 3 months by the boat yard Has anyone has a problem with Volvo diesel doing this
Many thanks Desi

If the coolant has become almost solid sounds like the wrong coolant has been used at some point to either top up or as a replacement.
Depending upon the type and makes you can get a reaction where the coolant mix turns to jelly. That is not a Volvo specific issue. Modern antifreeze solutions are a lot more complicated than just ethylene glycol these days.
As to the housings corroding - that depends what was left inside them and/ or the state of the anodes. Either way you will have to strip and clean everything really well, and replace/repair the heat exchanger housings. I would then fill with just water and run for a few hours under load to chase out any remains of the old coolant mix. Drain it all off again and refill with the correct Volvo coolant.

No. Never had that problem and my VP is 22 years old. As kashurst said, sounds like wrong coolant.
