Volvo DPH steering problems

Vp will never admit to anything, they only carry out warranty when it gets a bit sticky and court is mentioned, all dealers and boat builders know the score about this steering issue.

To be honest I bet sealine and Fairline are sick to death of all the problems after all they cost money and thats what they are there for, to make it, along with all the bad publicity they get, after all when a boat breaks down due to mechanical failure it more often the make of boat than the engines that are in it that is quoted.

I bet all the builders are longing for the day when there is a reliable power plant and drive available that requires minimal service and repairs, it will happen one day and I bet its not a green motor for sure.

Example, ive got 4 drives in my workshop at the moment, 2 dpe drives full of water that are nearly 8 years old and have never been touched, the 2 dph drives one of which is full of water, thats 4 years old, says it all, along with the 2 sets of steering hoses its had and 1 set of trim hoses and thats engines out to replace them.

I rest my case.

I could add some more but ive been told to keep quiet about gearboxes on D9s, for now anyway.

Don't think the engines need to come out to change DPH trim rams-unless it's a really tight fit in the engine bay for the engines? A few hours per side should sort it.

My own experience of problems with engines & the boat manufacturers name; it's always the engine brand that gets the blame, regardless of us proving it's the batteries/loose cables/screws through cables etc. I once got pointed into the engine bay & shown a faulty bilge pump with the words "fix that as well" because the owner assumed as it was under the engine it was a Volvo problem. My own experience & opinion of course

Also, having done a few days at LIBS myself I'm pleased to say I was always straight with anyone asking about steering ram issues & encouraged anyone who said they already owned them to get the serial numbers checked by a dealer to see if they are covered by the campaign(s). No point in lying as most know there have been problems & as suggested here, it gives the person no credability & makes them look stupid! Salesman, from my experience, either don't understand or just don't care as there is no money in it for them!

Finally, DPH drives don't just get water in them, surely a pressure test will find the leak?!? You can't just say 'full of water after 4 years' without giving an idea of where you have found it leaking from?!? Shaft seals? Oil drain point gasket? Filler plug o-ring?

This boat Andy is a targa 40 , I managed to change the trim hoses 2 years ago, there showing signs of ballooning again, the local dealer told him engines out last time. I managed to get at the inboard sides by removing various bit of engine. The water ingress is pure worn shaft seals, I'd say they mY last another year then it's new bottom half of drive.

Couple points, what causes them to go, the shaft on my rams have the rubber sleeve and there are no rough areas to damage a seal.

Where is the serial no? And where can we find the faulty batch numbers.

What's different with the DPH trim cylinder hoses compared to say the SX/ DPS hoses ? I've never heard of a "ballooning" problem with those, which is presumably due to the inner hose failing ( weren't the SX/ DPS ones introduced something like 1996 or 1997, so there's been plenty of time for them to fail?). Do the DPH ones work within a much greater angle change so the inner hose experiences much more strain?

Fisher 25 1976 steering system

Hi there, i am new to the forum and apologise if i have posted this in thr wrong area. I have a fisher 25 and the steering system needs replacing on it. I have taken it out but there are not any part numbers or names on any of the parts. Would anyone be able to tell me what the steering stystem is that is in these boats. The only writing that there is on any of the parts are made in sweden Mark 2. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Will

You really need to start a new thread with a relevant title. Your post will get lost here and is unlikley to get answered. If you could post a picture of the steering system with the new post that wold be evem better.

Cheers

Read through this as need to change my steering rams.

Seems the current part number is 22452005 however how can I know I am getting the latest version of the PN hasn't changed. Thanks
