Has anyone got the Volvo diy instructions on how to remove the drive, only want to change the bellows, too tight to pay the Volvo mariners rip off special price for the same. Thanks in anticipation.
Its not as hard as you think. depending on what model you have you only have to remove the upper casing(4 bolts) be careful not to damage the o ring. it should pull off the driveshaft splines. A good tip is to change the oil at the same time as its easier to measure it out and its a lot quicker. hope this helps the whole job should not take more than an hour and a half.
I have a 280 leg and as you, I'm not prepared to pay the price for just changing bellows and oil. I want to do this myself but since I haven't done this before and this part is in the water, I'd like to know more about the process. Can anyone give me a web site or details of a book that will help me do the job myself.
The best book/manual i have found is published by Seloc. It covers nearly all the stern drive units including Duo prop drives. its easy to follow and shows some shortcuts if you dont have some of the special Volvo tools. I purchased mine from Chaz Newans marine in putney london, but im sure you can order it from YBW book shop. Ive saved loads of money re- building the engine and drive in my boat, also a good tip is if you need parts for the engine try your local Volvo car dealer fist as most of the Gaskets etc are the same as the car ones using the same volvo part number at almost half the marine price.
I also need to do a spot of maintenance on my 290dp. Can you be a bit more specific about the book published by Seloc - I can't find it in the YBW section.
Any other guidance would be much appreciated.
