we have a D2-75 fitted to out sailing boat with a shaft drive. Its four years old, done 600 hours regulary serviced (shell rimula) but everytime i start the engine a few seconds later the oil alarm sounds and shows an oil warning. I blip the trottle and all is OK. Would this be the oil pressure sensor?

To give you peace of mind, you can usually see oil coming from the camshaft on most engines, when they are running, so even if the sensor is dodgy, you have peace of mind.

Most oil pressure switches fail due to moisture. Double check your dipstick or look into your camshaft cover via the oil filler cap, and check that there is no "mayonaise" which looks like it is an emulsion between oil and water.

Changing the sensor is usually easy.

If there is mayonaise, change the oil, check heat exchanger, head and crucially the anti siphon system.

Hopefully only a lousy sensor
