I have a Volvo MD2040D which should use Volvo Green antifreeze.
Is there a Halfords alternative?? It all seems quite confusing with many types and no industry stand for colors.
FYI it is not so much due to cost, but Halfords is local and Volvo is not … a question of convenience and speed to get it.

Well…..after much research……volvo green is G48

Only took me 10 years to figure this out. Its in the notes….bottom left

You missed the point (i think).

I think the point was, that the note identifies Volvo Green as G48.

Yep ...

Says that VCS and VCS-2 can be mixed ... which I presume is a different colour .... and not with the older GREEN G48 ...

So if OP has GREEN in his engine - its most likely G48 variant ...

But that document says they are not compatible so why do you believe volvo green is G48?
As the others have said….volvo only do green ,yellow (VCS) and Orange (VCS2) That document is about vcs-2 (orange) but says what the green is. Now, im not saying volvo dont add extra stuff and there is variation with g48 but it gives the base spec at least and wont have a massive allergic reaction to original volvo green.

I bought this

https://hgvdirect.co.uk/20-litre-green-antifreeze.html

Which i pretty sure is actually this Product | COMMA XSTREAM G48 AF CONC Concentrate Ethylene glycol based antifreeze and coolant with silicate based inhibitors. Protects against corrosion, overheating and freezing. Typical service life of up to 3 years. Safeguarded with bittering agent to help prevent accidental ingestion.

Just cheaper

Given g48 came out in the 70’s and is used in volvo trucks pre 2005……its all pointing in the right direction

So if thats true (I THINK I;ve seen a statement recently on here that it was OAT, but not sure) now you just need to be able to identify G48 in Halfords, which may be possible using the specs written on the packaging,

Asking staff in Halfords will only upset them, since they will insist on having your registration number, and become confused when told that your boat doesn't have one.

Allegedly no one in the whole organisation is able to answer such a question. Been there and done that, last year.

I suppose if you identified a car model that you knew used G48 and could find one in the street, you could copy down its registration number, but the labelling may allow you to avoid jumping through those hoops.

Just type "G48 antifreeze" into Google, amongst the millions of hits is this, for instance ;

https://www.halfords.com/brands/comma.html

Well, OK, thats probably OK then.

OTOH, when I looked, it also said, in the second paragraph in the Comma G48 antifreeze blurb

"Built with a unique technical process that will resist all signs of rusting, this 8 speed chain is perfect for long life use and 7 or 8 speed bikes"

I think that could be a bit more confidence inspiring, arse-elbow discrimination-wise

By heck we can all tell its autumn when coolant attracts so much interest. An anchor thread just started too. If i didnt have a Seasonal Adjustment Disorder before……i do now 🙈🤣

we run Volvo trucks and use Volvo antifreeze we were told by Volvo never to mix green/yellow as it goes like chewing gum
Also you cannot mix the new orange/red as well so we have to flush through and use orange
From Volvo you can not get green or yellow for trucks
I have a boat and use yellow but will have to change to orange
We still have g/y in stock but only for topping up
