There's post on s'butt which needs your assistance. I suggested policing against people creating wash, but t'was declined for usual libertarian reasons.

So, to educate powerboats and make sure they know what NOT to do is to have somebody make some educational videos/leaflets/articles on what NOT to do in terms of creating wash on sailboats. Volunteers needed with boats, able to set aside a few days for the purpose. Perhaps a boat mag can get involved too?

Will you hide our real id's in the video ? to avoid recrimination....if nasty soap stars get bothered by viewers who don't realise they're only acting, then we might too.

Joking aside, seems a good idea,I think(?).....

Re: any more?

Well volunteered! But davide is in poolywooly in wales, so that's no good. Or perhaps Haydn could wham past you a few times and get some practise in so he knows how to do it for the photoshoot proper.

Think I'm mising the point - So WE (i.e. motorboaters) make a video for US to watch showing how to save Raggies from a bit of bobbing up and down.

Hang on - Surely when is gets a bit rough then WE run for shelter not them. They love the F6 + stuff. most even go looking for it.
Now make a video to show other power boaters (and commerical boats as well ie. fishing boats, tugs, pilot boats) how not to make a wash that upsets other power boaters moored on a pontoon or say at anchour then that's OK.

No - Raggies love the rough stuff. IMHO FWIW ;-))

No need for volunteers just take boat and video cam to little russel in Guernsey and shoot footage then also shoot footage standing with G&T on balcony at Yacht club of vessels entering the 6 & 4 knot limit in the harbour whilst everyone is refuelling, now how dangerous is that!

I just want my boat back in the water ;-(

joking aside, it would be a powerful tool.

NOT joking aside, I hadn't a clue as to where this was leading. If no sailboats volunteer, then the video/leaflets can't be made...so they'll be standing in the way of progress on this issue...

Re: any more?

Yep. I'll volunteer. Cept some one nicked my vidio digi camera on Tuesday. so eerr have to get another one.
Cant wait for the fun to begin. Slaloming round rag boats, and all in a good cause. I've had loads and loads of practise, so should do a really good job. Tuther good one is flying up to the back of them at about 90 Knots. Then stopping dead. just before you ram them. They seem to like that, and jump and down with glee in the excitment. Then we can do another Vidio. Showing the result of towing a rag boat at twenty odd knots. For best results we can back one on to a sand bank and then get about 100 yds of good rope. Tutts can feed the rope over the back till I get up to warp speed (Wondered why they called it that). Then we can salute the low flighing yachty as he goes past!!

No one can force me to come here-----------

Never let it be said laddie - cometh the hour, cometh the Claymore.
I have digital footage of the Mull ferry (Caledonian MacBrayne) creating havoc on our boat last summer qhich I was keeping for posterity as Dear Heart uses the 'f' word on it - about 27 times - Can do a copy. Also have a shot somewhere of Sea Ranger which I believe lives in Inverkip and I believe is owned by the Chairman of Glasgow Rangers almost dipping my spreaders as he powers past up the West Kyle.(of Bute).
What hurt me most was when through an error judgement/momentary loss of concentration, we grounded in Cuan Sound and a rather smug motorboaty slowed right down and proceeded to photograph our downfall.
I only hope he was in focus as I waved my bare arse at him.
Unhelpful Sod is now down in my equivalent of Jack Charlton's little book

regards
Claymore

Could we also include a bit in the video showing dinghy's speeding in 8 knot harbours and dinghy's not giving a toss how they behave on the water? If so count me in.

what d'ya mean it's not made to get wet?

Policing?? Hmmm...

You might want to talk to the RYA about all this because they're about to unveil their new Sea Sense campaign that aims to educate raggies and stinkpotters as to the the problems each group encounters on the water, and which hopes to encourage better manners from both sides of the divide.

I have to say that I went out blow-boating in a Moody 38 for an article in the August 2002 MBY, and am not sure what all the fuss is about. A team from Yachting Monthly in a Princess 45 (we swapped boats for the day) tried their best to frighten/sink/swamp us, but failed dismally. It was a bit bumpy, but that's one of the problems with the sea...it has a habit of going up and down in an unpredictable way, it's wet, and there are other people out there enjoying themselves.

I reckon this isn't about wash (that's just an excuse). Raggies think they're better yachtsmen than stinkpotters (sailing requires far more effort, so it must be more difficult), they hate the conspicuous consumption that goes with stinkpots, and they can't stand to see anyone else having fun with such ease. As a biker, Jet Skier and motorboater I have a lot of experience with being hated, and it's not because I'm an ill-mannered lout...it's because my toys are obviously much more fun than other people's (helicopters and planes excepted).

Re: exactly!

You might have to wear a black t-shirt so it's obvious to viewer that you're being the baddie. Then, as you say, multiple daft manoevres ariound harbour, causing complete mayhem. Change of t-shirt to white for the goody-goody pics.

Yes tcm, you are right. It would be a powerful tool for some bureaucrat to justify legislation against a problem which few seem to feel exist.

All IMHO of course.

Re: Serious response

I'm a powerboater and I'll volunteer a sailboat. Please advise details. I've called Melinda Messenger and she confirms she can MC the whole thing, so sales should be strong. Suggest we go for dual format, VHS and Betamax, so we don't lose a massive slice of the sailboat market. Maybe even Super8? Praps also a World Cup theme too, like Argies in the sailboat, which in turn is made by Jeanneau, etc etc

Ah well it's a bit far to bring the Miirage but happy to come with my little dinghy + 2 HP outboard and see what happens when the raggies go past me too fast. Then I can complain about their wash.

Can also bring newly bought s\hand video camera that one of my mates in liverpool's got for sale. Apparantly he';s just bought it from a bloke in a pub somewhere local and it's going cheap .

Oh and someon mentioned thye Argies. Have a look at this, but no gloating
