Visitor moorings at Stone Point

Re: Stone Point - Today

That was our view at lunch today too. After a scrub at Bedwell yesterday we thought it would be nice and cool, which it mostly was.

Did you hear the goings-on with the seal-boat that had engine failure and ended up on the mud in Bramble creek? He gave his position by name as above and was asked for the lat&long. The CG, bless them, reckoned he must be about 8 miles east of Harwich and it took about a 1/4hr before they cottoned on. According to the skipper, his 20+ passengers were quite happy and eventually an assortment of ILBs, lifeboats and others got them off. I particularly liked the comment when one of the rescuers was asked if the 'casualties' had got muddy in the transfer. The LB (I think) replied that they only had a bit of mud around their feet, but anyway he was thinking of getting the fire-hose out to cool them off a bit.

After lunch we drifted off onto Harwich Bay and watched both the Harwich LB and the Inshore Lifeboat giving the casualties the trip of a lifetime. Should have got a picture✔️

Wonder why the Walton Boat didn’t attend❓ Possibly to save the Sealman’s blushes. :encouragement:

Where is the Seal Boat boat now❓

Currently at anchor at the top end of Hamford Creek, in the mud - God’s Little Acre.

About 20 boats at anchor here. Who needs the Solent❓

Re: Stone Point - Today

Went to Stone Point to watch that eclipse‼️

Didn’t see any eclipse but got a magnificent lightening display and a huge amount of rain that valeted the boat for us.

Whilst at Stone Point, about 2 hours earlier we watched a large ketch go aground outside the channel and proceed to lean over until the tide returned. By now the storm was at its height, huge gusts and vis down to about 20 metres in rain squalls.

The ketch motored up the Walton Channel.

Only to return running hard against the tide but with the wind and vanished into the murk, (this time in the channel) heading for sea❓

Had it been me, probably too rough to go into Titchmarsh so I would have picked up a bouy. I wouldn’t have run a channel where I had just been aground. Especially in weather like that.

Later that evening we listened to the Walton and Clacton Lifeboats attending Mayday off Brightlingsea.

Hats off to those brave guys out in weather like that - especially in the Clacton inshore rib.

Fortunately, it all ended well with the motor cruiser making it safely into Brightlingsea and both life boats returning to station. Also very impressed with the young lady in control who handled the incident very professionally and I am sure was very reassuring to all concerned.

The RNLI at it’s best and say again, VERY BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN.

We made our way back to Walton the following day to be let into the pond, by a lifeboat man‼️

Many thanks.
