Visitor Buoys Portsmouth

Are there any Visitor mooring buoys in Portsmouth Harbour? Ideally 2m draft and sheltered (ok I’m being picky now!)

Not that I know of. What are you looking for? Short term if not going ashore many boats just pick up an empty buoy particularly if waiting to get back to tidal moorings.

Longer term you could ask Gosport Boatyard or Wicormarine. Higher up the harbour tends to be more sheltered. Many of the buoys in the lower reaches can be a bit exposed and many use a ferry service rather than a tender.

Yes ring Chris at Gosport BY as he has buoys . Also some of the sailing clubs on the Gosport side maybe at hardway for example might know somewhere.

Just follow the time-honoured custom of picking up a mooring and hope its owner does not return while you are pouring the wine.

That's sometimes easier said than done. It can be worse than trying to find a car parking space at Tesco on a Saturday morning. I've spent hours looking for a vacant buoy.

Lunch aboard, or ashore?
Ashore you can stop by the lightship, or the Camber Dock Portsmoputh side.
To find a free vacant mooring, you'lll probably have to go a way up harbour.

Found a vacant buoy opposite the carrier berth but boy are those carriers noisy! No wonder the resident of Gosport complain they can’t sleep at night

Of course- that's why they need so much more Methdone than the average junkie.

There are always vacant moorings in the harbour. Even more so whilst some boats are still not back in the water .
If you go just a little further than your tracks you should find lots of them.
If you chose to overnight on a vacant mooring you don't get anyone banging on your boat in the morning after money .

Can't be certain, but I think they are run by one of the Portsmouth Sailing Clubs.

I very much doubt those moorings are going to offer a restful night on board!

I guess that’s the cost of not going into Haslar or such like . Personally it just seems to be the x channel ferries which cause issues but I’ve only looked at these moorings from the sea wall and never been tempted to pick one up. Certainly though gunwharf on other side is not very restful due to ferries.

Just keep going up the harbour until you find somewhere quiet enough. It's not that far, takes us about 35 mins from the entrance to Wicormarine.

If it's overnight, you could do worse than Hardway Sailing Club pontoon. The bar's closed at the moment but there are a couple of pubs withing staggering distance.

It dries, but the mud's deep and soft enough to take a deep fin comfortably.
