Hello,

A friend and I are taking a chance on a long weekend on the boat next weekend in Mallorca. In the event of rubbish weather, we thought we might pootle from our home berth in Puerto Portals up to Palma and turn our weekend into a city break. Question - which marina is the best one to stay in for a weekend? I've just emailed Moll Vell (which I'm expecting to be pricey) and RCNP - as they both look to be on the old town side of Palma (where we'll want to hang out).

Am I right in thinking that the only other Palma marinas are Club de Mar and Port de Mallorca? Looking at google maps, they look to be a much further walk into the old town. Is that right?

Any thoughts gratefully received! This is assuming any marina has space for us in the middle of winter.....

Thank you!

Yes Club de Mar is the furthest from the old town but it is the best marina in Palma in terms of security and facilities and most importantly it suffers least from swell. Port de Mallorca is very open to any swell but is closer. RCNP is closer still to the old town (depending where your berth is) but felt a bit run down when we moored in Palma. Moll Vell isnt really a marina more like just a quay and the water always seemed quite dirty there and security didnt seem to be good

IMHO for a short break I would go to Moll Vell because the old town is literally just across the road. I just wouldnt want to leave a boat there full time. Second choice would be Club de Mar. No worries about security or swell. Unless you fancy a long walk just call a taxi to get to the old town. Most of the quays are wide enough for cars so the taxi comes right to the back of your boat

If you go into the old town you have to have a cocktail here http://bar-abaco.es/. Just once unless youre feeling loaded!

If you do end up in Port de M make sure you ask for a berth inside the marina and not on the outside wall. PM is clean and generally efficient and practical but not somewhere you would hang out so as to speak. If you want a good restaurant go to Forn de Sant Joan *+34 971 728 422‬ which is very near Bar Abaco but make sure your cc is charged up!

Club Nautico is simple and Very cheap at this time of year. Ask for an inside berth.

I am baed in Port Mallorca in the summer and the outside is OK but not ideal in the summer, but Nautico is a better place to be and has an indoor pool.

And then be firm when you arrive.
The marineros in the RIB that meets you always like visitors on the outside berths even though you have agreed with the office for an inside berth.
Good marina though - I prefer it to Club de Mar.
The full name is Real Club Nàutic de Palma http://www.rcnp.es
They have a long wheelbase golf cart that trundles up and down the marina giving lifts.
The marina gate is closer to the old part of Palma than Club de Mar.

Thanks everyone - this is really helpful. RCNP have said they have space for us next weekend, so we're opting for there on the basis of proximity - weather permitting - which is currently looking somewhat dicey. Let's hope it improves! Alas For de Sant Joan is closed until March, but we've made a reservation at Ombu, and plan to drop in at Abaco. We did go there once last year and it was mad!

PS - Moll Well sent me a very kind email explaining that they only have 30M berths.......

I went to RCNP over new years eve one time. Good price and an easy walk to town. We were berthed very close to an exit gate but the walk from there to the marina office to do the paperwork was very long, about 15 - 20 minutes. I didn't see any golf buggies!
