Dylan, I am sadly disappointed in you..

I always keep a blazer with polished buttons, some pick trousers and a captains hat on the slug for just such occasions

never been turned away from any club I care to visit

Dylan

... when I read the above. With Shock and Awe.
A 'blazer' with 'bright' buttons!
But you are the Owner of a Sailing Yot, not your Paid Hand or Crew!
Owner's wear black buttons on their REEFER, ever since Queen Victoria( Gawds Bless 'er) died.

No socks with your deckies, ofcourse.

A Captains hat is a trifle OTT, together with the 'bright blazer' as people will think you are orf a Mobo.
If you wore white ducks and not pinks, they would be 100% certain you were a Sunseeker driver:D
A simple Breton kep, with Club/Class kep badge, sun faded, with rusty braid/ chinstrap, recently used for mopping up a diesel spill is enough.

In very hot weather, a white cover may be deployed on the kep, but a straw boater, with Regt, School, Club or Class ribbon may be worn ashore(they don't last long at sea, even with a retainer worn!).

6/10 for Effort, but more work needed.
One was always faultlessly turned out, even when Wayfarer cruising, even if soaked to the waist, and now One has a hanging wardrobe....:D
One is still soaked to the waist, getting orn n orf in the tender!

A few years ago when arriving at the Royal Cork Yacht Club very early in the year we spied two folk running down the pontoon toward us as we made our approach. "They'll be rushing down to tell us oiks to eff off" we thought.

How wrong could we have been? They were rushing so they could be there to take our lines and a very warm welcome was extended to us and we had a great stay while the weather did what weather does.

The Colraine Yacht Club at the other end of the land was similarly welcoming.

As was everywhere else in that land. (except the 2 boat loads of armed troops off Warren Point)

I love Ireland.

We have always had a good reception... (Except at the Royal Western... they really are a bit spit and polish blazer types..... but there is a decent cafe on site so they are superflous anyways...)

We especially like Royal Fowey, (Very good with the dog.. the chef brought out some ham to him on the patio... grockle season..and it has the best view in town.. A real haven of tranquility in the high.) Helford, Salcombe, Dart, and the one in the posh new building next to that posh marina in Southampton... They have a guy on the door....

We arent members anywere... and have never been turned away.... if we have to sign in to someplace I just whack some random selection of letters in for the club... ala RFDYC or NPYC or suchlike...

We've been a few times now into Harwich and they were great as well...

Photodog,

maybe things have changed, but as a couple of scruffy teenagers in 1981 we were made very welcome at the Royal Western; even though, as our inflatable had been stolen at Studland, we had a tiny inflatable beach boat only big enough for both of us kneeling to paddle, and parked the thing among the gleaming tenders in their special little harbour...

Agree about the Royal Fowey though, very friendly; I think it was there that there was gold leaf on a door, 'Reading Room - Gentlemen Only' which I rather liked !

I liked Island Sailing Club when SWMBO asked how they could tell we were "visiting yachtsmen" and the steward just looked her up and down and said "it's the clothes madam." Fortunately she was amused and spent the rest of the day eyeing passers by and deciding if deck shoes were being worn as a fashion accessory or because they were genuinely off a boat.

Damp or salt stained trizer bottoms/backsides or footwear usually a dead giveaway:D
