Viewing aboat

Benetaue 26,stub keel with retractable keel, seen afloat .Transome hungrudder was in the cockpit.Tarpaulin covered most of the boat .very brief look around and difficult to check stuff as total disorder below.Outboard on there transome apparently it works .Interesting self steering gear that looks in good condition. One winch was seized up.The interior headlining had been replaced by some odd insulating silver material.

History, it was owned by a Frenchmanwho sadly passed away and the yacht club is acting for the family.Asking10,000 euros

Needs lots of attention .Agreed to have a second longer look at future date……wife thinks it’s not worth the asking price🙁

Conclusion could be the boat!……..and with the vane gear I could be off😂

Intersting. Are you sure it's a 26? We had a first 24 and the one in the picture looks very familiar! in particular the hatch garage which is more bulbous and boxy than on the 26 which is sleeker from memory.

Eitherway, we had that boat for about 13 years - good boat. Lift keel was a swing job on a worm drive up/down so never got stuck, Not a plate into a trunk to catch mud. I managed to get her to plane once but equally decent space aboard for weekends.

I'd certainly have another in the future. Your offering does seem a bit spendy though. Here's a clean looking one for £6k

Ok
Nice one
€5K and you’ve got an ok boat that will need outboard service and standing rigging maybe subject to seeing the paperwork and dates and maybe a new sail or two later if you find that you like the boat.. but … that’s all very do-able..👍
Cosmetic mess and deck debris is perfect for discouraging higher offers .
The vane is a Navik and they’re very good
I suspect it’s a DiY buyers market these days so low ball 5k showing your EFFORTS at researching prices of similar marque boats across the market

And now… in jest…. This is what I was tempted to write had you turned it down outright Wansy .. joking mostly 😎

“Writing for a clairvoyant friend..

I’m afraid the boat No 235 wasn’t afloat enough, cheap enough, small enough, big enough, traditional enough, whizz enough, not the right shape, size colour, location, motor colour, couldn’t test it, wasn’t what I am looking for needs a bit of motor/ paint/ clean up/ effort. Didn’t have a big enough bed/ saloon/ cockpit/ side deck for a lie down..

Wife cats dogs love it and we can afford it but then what would I do with my time procrastinating?”

Yes the keel was on a worm gear……boats tend to be more expensive, dueto supply and demand. Not sure it’s 26 foot ,I was told, will check it you may well be right, thanks for info

It’s thewifeputtingthe dampers on theidea

I would be a bit carefull about the 'valuation' at 10k. Likely hopeful by the family after cruising the web. The actual state of the boat might cough up a few big bills, like rigging. Have you seen the sails?

Well done Wansey.....your wife has just made a classic rookie mistake.....you must quickly respond with, ‘so how much is it worth ?’....and whatever number she comes up with....you reply, ‘OK, lets make them an offer....’
Now, you might not get it for that price....but the wife is now part of the buying process....and whatever number the vendor comes back with....your wife will start negotiating with them....
You are about to be the new owner of a nice little sailboat 👍

Funnily enough she said that……

Will be going back to have a deeper look, worrying big things are the odd interior insulation on the deck head, obviously a replacement for original.Have to try the worm gear for the keel and the outboard, lots of stuff to really look at
