I was hoping for better news for you. Bit of a bugger isn’t it? With time and regular physioterririst sessions and some sunshine things might yet move forward usefully a bit more for you 🤞💨☀️
Last 2 physios were as much use as chocolate teapots. Just on a jolly. Problem is that nerves in feet & ankles are dying, but there is another issue which no one can sort, causing leg pains. I cannot push the bins up the drive without struggle, yet I can ride my bike 4 miles- then suffer for 3 days

Would an electric bike allow you to start rebuilding fitness very gradually?

That is what I have(Bromptons) but I turn the power output right down, or off, so that my legs have to work harder. Just seems that I can ride a bike but cannot walk or go up a ladder. Stairs at night are a real challenge & I dread them.

What to say?
Give up on chocolate teapots, what about a bit of acupuncture . Something is out of whack and being missed by standard assessment.
Keep digging!

Drift: I was going to try electrifying my Brompton, the conversion Co were just hopeless, way beyond giving them a chance to ramp up a ‘Bright Idea’chance, I decided they were ( and remain) a bunch of chancers and I cancelled the order - which then of course arrived, a month later!
I then had to threaten them with storage charges before they just about organised a pick up for the unopened box.

It will be a factory electric Brommie if as and when I need it , you really rate yours long term iirc.

Keep peddling and bump your way up the stairs backwards on yer arse with twin handrails, boat like, until things improve ?

Apart from anything else this goes to show just how incredibly efficient bicycles are.

I won't presume to offer any medical suggestions, but do hope things turn a corner for you.

My family will not let me sell DD & son says he will take me to Ostend for the Paulusfeesten , stay a weekend & come home. Then collect me 3 weeks later, as he did last year, staying a long weekend, so he can drink himself silly in the RNSYC. Whilst I spend my euros paying for his shrimp salads, fillet steaks etc which are highlights of the RNSYC.
I have not worked out if it is to help me, or so he can experience Ostend every year. His wife does not mind so long as she gets the "surprise" prezzie of a kilo of Belgian chocs. I do not know what it is but I rarely get bad weather there & last year was the best 3 weeks of 2024 so fingers crossed for 2025.

I agree with the wife about the dodgy deakhead lining
My 24’ foxhound has that, and it’s made worse by being stuck up with snail trails of CT-1. 4 years on from buying the boat and I still haven’t found a way to replace it. It comes down easily but the thick wiggles of glue left welded to the ceiling look like the tube worms you get on the prop shaft. Every time I take some of the silver bubble wrap down to try chiselling at the glue I give up and get the spray adhesive out to refit it.
I’m in my berth now looking up and wiping the condensation off above my head after a night aboard.

I tell everyone it’s my homage to the spaceship in Barbarella

Avoid!

I have 2 E- bromptons ( The H & The L handlebar options) & I love them. Before I ruined my life with the covid jab I used to do 13 mile circuits round the Dengie where I live. The motor cuts out at 15.5 MPH & i used to try to better my average speed of 16.5MPH. To do this I used the electric, on mid power, to get me up the hilly bits, then go flat out the level bits when the motor would cut out.
The range is a bit low. Not what they claim, but I am top of the weight & tall. The low rate is virtually useless for power. On level 2, I get 25 miles & on level 3, I get 18 miles but that is a really strong push & I hardly ever use it.
Whilst other bikes have longer range ( I have ridden quite a few different ones abroad) they have the disadvantage that when the power dies they are hard to ride. The bromptom motor does not restrict cycling & the E-bike can be used as a normal manual bike where other types cannot. Do not spoil it with add ons.

Ha, now that sound like a real, plan👍

Do you recall the old Yachting Monthly running gag about ‘ Sleigtholme Weather’ and to those who don’t, the idea was to never ever book a summer holiday when the editor did because he unerringly attracted all of that summers storms..

DD/ Belgium sounds positively benign

A friend of mine removed a dodgy head lining completely. Then stuck on strips of timber at set centres. Then screwed a white faced sheet cut in strips 9 inches wide to fit the battens, used around bathrooms. Then covered the joints with varnished hdwd strips. It looks really posh & well worth the effort. No condensation.

Thank for that.
Yup they put on weight quite easily .
Last year I gave my (3rd), 15 year old Brommie a birthday with new bushings, bearings chain and sprocket cogs etc etc and was surprised at how very doable and good value the original spec parts are.
I tow a trailer on mine on occasion , the thought occurred that’s the place to put a second battery but then it’s all getting silly

This will be my 81st visit to Ostend. My first foreign destination was there, so it has a special place in my heart

What trailer? Is it axle or seat post fitted? I did try making a folding one for the boat to carry 20 litre fuel cans, but got the shape wrong.
But I would like a decent one. Possibly not too big. Just to take stuff to the marina 4.4 miles away, for exercise rather than use the car. My feet & legs are making the pedals difficult to use in the car

It’s a 24’ boat. I have to stoop like Quasimodo as it is, even with sole boards that slope down with the hull.
I’m loathe to reduce headroom (headroom? I can rub my shoulders on the coachroof in places!) any more millimetres than is absolutely necessary.
I’d like to do the batten and board or plank thing, but I don’t want to be crawling round the cabin.

Got the ferry from wallasea to Burnham last year for a ride around Dengie. Some lovely spots.

Tomorrow we are off to Sada to see a 8.5 LOA fiberglass sailing boat .According to the yacht club/marina the owner is wanting to sell as he is getting too old.For us it’s handy as It solves the where to keep it problem and the marina has the air of an English yard ….The boat is ashore so we get to see the hull ,keel and rudder but initially Dont get to run the engine.Plan is to have an inspection and decide if we want to proceed further then return and try and do a systematic review, maybe running the engine .Its going to be a surprise as we know nothing except it’s recommended by the club director……we don’t event know if it has narrow side decks😂
Is the seller aware of your reputation?

I think that on that height one needs different technique for moving about. There is a point where the cross over between standing bent over & shuffle bumbing along the seats can make a difference to whether one gets backache or not.
I found that it is better not to stand up, but slide along the seats & stay sat down where possible.

This one
It is a work in progress
But it works really well and ways less than a Carry Y Freedom (£500) which I regard as the gold standard for these things ..
I have an axle attachment but I prefer rest of seat because then it becomes a pontoon hand trailer too
I use a Burley seat post clamp, £35 or so..
And now it gets silly:
The Q/detach wheels came off a childrens chariot
The Axle bearer underneath is a square section steel tube ex cage
That is welded to two ex wheelchair hoops welded and gusseted to form the base frame and frontleaning upstand curve.
To this is attached /via two car exhaust clamps - one section of a trampoline frame in steel , nice curve perfect for seat post or hand trolley .
And the ‘Handle’ is just a bit of 6mm threaded bar with two nuts and duct tape. At this time 😂
And the ‘ hinge’ which works brilliantly as it is also rattle free , will twist yet absorb road shocks or tug-Iness from the loaded trailer, this is a car alternstor belt fed into the trampoline tube and pinned with a bolt.
And this lot weighs 7kg and has stayed in this current iteration over a year now .
I haven’t even painted any of it pretty yet but I reckon the geometry is all about right and that’s it and it all knocks down flat for a cockpit locker or hatchback..

One for your workshop perhaps ?

I’ve carried paving slabs , petrol lawn mowers and bags of cement, sand and plaster..

Go on, you know you want to .
