My experience of Morocco over the years is that most towns/cities now have western style supermarkets where alcohol can be bought freely.
There are booze shops hidden away and take some searching out, a bit like buying contraband (bottles wrapped in brown paper/only one bottle at a time, etc).
Its obviously a Muslim country and in theory drinking in public is illegal but it is also a liberal country so you will get a frown not locked up.
Make your own choice where you buy fruit and veg etc. It's always more fun to buy in the markets if you can trust and accept the prices or your French is good enough to argue about it. Milk I have no idea.

Fresh milk, fruit, veg and just like France, fresh baked baguettes no problem. Fish normally widely available. Meat...wouldn't bother. Chicken is normally still squaking.

As above, modern supermarkets in larger towns.

Can find bars here and there, more common in tourist towns. Local beers, Flag and Casablanca. Prefer the second. Resurgence in local wines under French supervision. OK not great but goes well....red.....with tagine style scran.

Enjoy. :)

Hmm. Whilst I’m extremely grateful for all the tips re alcohol, I may have given the wrong impression with my throw away remark. We’re wanting to check whether we can provision for potentially five days at sea for our passage to the Canaries.
Ha, I am sure you are well stocked up for liquids in Portugal.
Morocco is full of fresh produce and plenty of people willing to sell it.
However last time I was there they still hang meat out in the open air for sale, can be a bit biblical.
You will enjoy stocking up for a week in the local markets I am sure.
As the saying goes: Enjoy.
Hic....

Yes, it's quite surprising to drive through a town or village and see them butchering carcases on the sidewalk.

Put the meat in the fridge and it will be fine. Its pretty primitive, but that's not important to bacteria! But tbh we don't bother with much meat on voyage.

More important, make sure that veg is not refrigerated because if so you can't judge how old it is and how long it will keep, whereas it will last 3 weeks or more if not refrigerated. But, really, between Morocco and Canaries is 3 days or less!

All good points and I agree it should be three days or less. I like to have a bit in reserve though. It saves mutiny amongst the crew.

We have always found, probably as a result of the regime on the Glenans bases that used to exist in Ireland, and on the training boats, that the most convenient type of food on passage was stews, and meals based on minced beef and pasta or rice, and I certainly wouldn't buy mince in Morocco!

Although an avid tea (with milk) drinker before I went on my travels, I found it easier too switch to green tea without milk - its fine once your taste adapts, is is lot less hassle and reputedly is better for you - anti-oxygents or something.

Anyway Moroccan mint tea is delicious, even if a bit sweet for my taste.

Vegetables no problem I always bought from markets rather than supermarkets.

Big place - which port?
Seems quite a long detour heading Portugal - Canaries . Get some more in Portugal, not exactly a monster ocean voyage down to canaries.
Fair winds!

Navily - The most innovative cruising guide
The crew have a yearning to visit Gibraltar (for various good reasons). I’ve suggested a direct route as you suggest but we’ve got plenty of time so who am I to argue the point. Gibraltar to Canaries makes a cruise down the Moroccan coast the option of a different cruising experience. Mrs M & I have been to Morocco before so we know it’s a reasonably easy liberal Islamic country to visit; especially in the tourist areas where they need the revenue. We’ve never had to victual for a few days at sea there though, so hence my question.

Not much of a detour when long term cruising really. Especially as a transit through the Straits is such a great sail. There's something special about seeing those Pillars of Hercules.

Opposite Gib.....always worth the effort....is the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, another top spot for me. Ancient castle to see, a cab run up to the lighthouse, big produce market 5 minute walk from marina. One of my favourites.

On way back out, the new ish marina in Tangier gets good reports. Unfortunately I've not stopped there.....yet!

Normally takes me around 5 to 6 days, Gib to Lanza or mebbe an extra day coming back uphill. But several good pit stops in Atlantic Morocco for those with time on their side.

If you are in Gib then Ceauta could be an option. Stock up & jump a taxi to Tetouan for the Moroccan experience.

Well worth a visit, as well as the souk the town's full of shops selling cheap fake designer clothes.
Awesome place have been many times. Heaving with people, grubby, noisy, fab! Always employed a guide, cheap and made so much more of a visit.

After the tour we used this place for a crew supper:

El Reducto Tetuán | elreducto.com - El Riad

The guide would sort us a return cab afterwards....always docked in Smir. The border at Ceuta is normally a real pita.

However, if o es intention is to carry on southwards on the Atlantic coast, there are plenty of other places. Rabat is highly regarded, for example.
