Vice that fits in a winch socket?

Just been to the workshop to check and its also known as the GripMaster and used to be available from QVC at about half the current $ price.

Found it - http://www.qvcuk.com/ukqic/qvcapp.aspx/app.detail/walk.yah.UKGD~U085 - Mr Strong Clamping System With Turning Centres Flush End Stops - £49

The one I ordered from QVS last friday has just arrived. Seems identical to the Zyliss system I used to have years ago [plus some improvements].

I'm very pleased with it, well worth the money. Thanks for the lead, Dinghyman.

yikes,.. mine has too....

Whilst it looks very useful, its rather larger and clunkier than I expected.. If I were staying on land, I'd definitely use it, but I'm not sure whether I can afford to give it ship room as a tool I want to take with me.

ponders.. shall I send it back?

You can never have a vice or clamp that opens too far! (well within reason anyway). At various times I have used mine to hold my boom, spinnaker pole, alternator, prop shaft, stern ladder, myriad pieces of wood, anchor, windlass motor and gearbox, not to mention smaller items like bolts, rope and metal rod for cutting. I would keep it if you can possibly find the space. I don't carry all the ancillary bits, just the basic vice and soft jaws. An incredibly useful bit of kit.
