Vhf transmits but doesn\'t receive.....

Our Nasa SX 35 vhf seems to be transmitting but not receiving.

Are there any simple checks I can do to isolate the cause?

Are you on eg Ch80? A common problem is a set defaulting/being set to the US channel, so you won't receive the return call transmitted on P1

You could be onto it with that one, as we were on ch 80.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes do check that you are not set to the American frequencies.
Ch 80 as used by UK marinas is a duplex channel but the American ch 80 is a simplex channel that uses the same frequency as the Uk Ship transmitting frequency for both ship and shore stations.

(If you are set to the American frequencies you will be able to hear other vessels using ch80 but not the shore station)

[/ QUOTE ]Ooops, sorry, I got caught by that ONCE - kids had been "playing" with the knobs - I didn't think about the simplex/duplex problem on ch 80 - must remember to look at the big picture - now that you say you were on ch 80 the answer is obvious as many have advised above. Trust you can reprogram your set to use uk channels.
