Raymarine also have a black box VHF and AIS transceiver, but its handset display doesn't look as appealing as the Vesper's.

Which one please?

The Ray 91 seems to be AIS receive only.

Maybe I was misled by the Cactus description of their offer of a Ray 90 bundled with an AIS700... - Raymarine Ray 90 VHF Black Box With AIS 700 Tx & Rx (inc Wired Handset. Passive Speaker and Cable) (T70424)

IMO the Simrad / B&G one is ugly,

Since when were VHFs required to be ‘pretty’ ?? ? It works, it’s smaller than some - especially without an external box, and it has a wifi feed for external handsets. It’s far less ‘clunky’ than the proposed SH set, and I had and highly rated the GX2200e.

Really well when you connect your dsc radio to it ?
