I replaced my VHF about 4 years ago - nothing wrong with it - but I wanted one with AIS facility to send information to my Plotter. I put the old one - a NASA VHF - in a box in the garage and forgot about it. I have just found it and tried it out but it will not send. The installation is fine as I have just removed the present VHF which works ok, so it must be the VHF.

Any ideas?

Assuming it receives OK then check the power supply wiring. If it looks black rather than clean copper cut it back or replace with new wire. The black is cupric oxide which creates resistance (I believe) , hence not able to transmit but can receive. Using tinned cables helps protect against this.
