Having returned to sailing after a 20 year gap, what licence(s) do I need and why? I never had one before..

Sorry for the ignorant question!

You need two. One for you and one for the boat. You need to attend a day course and take a test for your Short Range VHF and you fill out a form pay your money for the boat bit. The good news is that I believe that they are about to make boat radio licences free.

RYA will give you details of all your local sea schools that offer short range courses. You can find the RYA by clicking here

And you can fill in the form for your boat licence by filling out the online form here.

Twenty years ago, your boat and you needed a licence. You just didnt bother, as a lot didnt. It's a simple procedure now

I talked to Offcom yesterday. The official line on this is that it was purely a consultative document which rhey are considering along with other options. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
