Given the electronics world has got smaller, cheaper, and faster everywhere else, it's surprising that the retail price of a basic VHF has kept pace with inflation so well.
It is the same with machine tools such as horizontal bandsaws etc. They cost almost exactly the same today as in the 1980s.

Something perhaps worth mentioning. The markup , profit wise, for dealers is rather poor with electronics compared to general chandlery . Most discounts are often manufacturer driven or retailers with slow moving stock items.

No personal involvement but often Seamark Nunn often turn out to have keen prices. On one occasion, they were willing to price match after I gave them the Web address.

Any other recommendations ?

What was the cost of an inflatable in the 1980s? I remember I could only afford a very small orange thing.
