Has anyone advice on the best way to connect a cut vhf aerial? It was cut when the mast came down last year. The current connector is resulting in significant reception loss!
thanks

I would use N-type connectors. These are basically the same as the V-tronix deck plug and socket. You will find them at Maplin etc

Better perhaps, but much more bulky, PL259 connectors which are the same as you probably have between aerial cable and radio. You will also find these at Maplin.

Worth considering a deck plug and socket ??????? Makes disconnecting the aerial a whole lot easier !

Hi many thanks for the reply. Deck plug a good suggestion.

If all you want to do is reconnect the cut cable, you can achieve a near perfect connection with a simple inline soldered connection. The impedance match will be far superior and the connection more reliable than any dismountable connector.

I strip back both ends just enough to butt-solder the coax inners; insulate the inners with heat-shrink; push the braiding back over the join; tightly wrap thin bare single-strand copper wire over the braid; insulate overall with heat-shrink. (obviously you need to plan well to have the heat-shrink on the right sections first!).

I have just had a new VHF aerial professionally fitted which previously had a deck plug. FWIW, I was advise against this and had a deck gland and below deck connector fitted, I am not sure what type of connector it is, but it looks a lot like half the connector that goes into the back of the set.
