It looks as though Conrad Colman has benefited hugely from his 1 hr. delayed start by getting North, picking up the new breeze early and sailing around the fleet.

Looking at them struggle in the light. why didn't anyone cant the keel to induce a bit of heel to help the sails fall into shape?

Agree. But at least the race is now on, with boats up to higher speeds of 20 knots or so.

Sam Goodchild seems to be in 2nd place which is fantastic. But I can’t find him on AIS off the west coast of Portugal. Does anyone know his boat name on MarineTraffic? And are competitors allowed to sail in dark mode with AIS switched off?

Sam G is now up to 1st on the latest update. His AIS id is 'Advens 1 Solo Sailor', however Marine Traffic relies on the VHF signal being picked up by a shore station so he is probably out of range.

He's 1st on the tracker, but I think long term being further west is going to pay.

looks like he's just gybed at 1500. Great to see he's ahead of Ruyant who I think is in a new gen boat with the same support team.

From the ‘live,’ just now: Thomas Ruyant has a deck leak from the sail hatch. Spent the night pumping.Needs flat conditions before he can fix.
Still a fantastic showing by Sam G. Not often Charlie Dalin gets overtaken…..Long may Sam’s success continue!

Dee Caffari's routing (on Andi Robertson's 'live,' today) had Nico, Charlie & Sam G all converging, neck and neck, this time tomorrow. But that's a loooong way ahead. With much real life still to happen.
