They spent ages discussing the dining facilities. They forgot to show the beer fridge.

Watched for free on Olympic Channel through Amazon - great coverage but thought the first boat was over the line and may incur a 5 hour penalty

Yes he's now been penalised. I'm amazed that the commentators didn't spot it.

I wondered if he decided that with a slower boat, he may as well go for it and get lots of extra publicity and photo opportunities for his sponsor. Most of the boats outside the top few would be ignored. A 5 hour penalty will be irrelevant for a lot of the tail end Charlies if the latest generation foiling boats are days ahead.

Indeed, after just over 3 hours from the start the gap from front to back of the fleet was already nearly 12 MILES! The leading boats (presumably new generation) were doing around 24 knots whilst the back third of the fleet were doing around 14 knots. Like racing Formula 1 cars against Saloon cars.
Clearly the flat water reaching at the start, once the wind built slightly, is ideal for the full foilers. Speed differences likely to be less marked for a while if bashing upwind. But I can see why somebody might take a line flyer for some TV glory.

Yes, either the timing of the audio and the video were out on the broadcast, or that boat was OCS. But it may be a broadcast issue
It's very odd. If you replay the start, the director cuts to a rib where someone is counting down the last seconds on his vhf, several seconds behind the on-screen clock. Bureau Vallée was fine according to that.

Digital video can have quite an encoding delay, if you want robustness.

Looks like their primary Race Tracking Map app failed straight away.
The tracking works on the French version of the official website.
If you want the English version, I have worked out that the following URL works.

Corrected URL for English website

Note.. Tabs don't currently then work if you go to the ranking then switch back.
