Vendée Globe 2016-2017

Alex is hopefully happy with his position. It seems that he has the fastest boat in the fleet - this is the second time he has sailed past people already, and he is the only one taking time out of the leaders. There is loads of racing still to go, and I suspect he will be back in the lead in a day or two. Then he's just got to keep the boat in one piece.

Up into third and flying now. :)

Enda walked right round the boat without a harness..................... interesting

Have you never seen single handed ocean racing before?. Would you want to go over the side of a boat doing 20 or 30 knots and be clipped on? Much better chance of survival if you go over and you have a PLB.

Looking at how few gybes the others have done, I'm surprised he put two in overnight.
Allan
. That maybe more to do with wind angles. These boats go faster at certain angles so pointing further downwind without gybing may have been slower.

I'm not having a go, just found it a bit strange looking. I must admit, I don't normally clip on or wear a lifejacket.

But I have never crossed a sea, never mind an ocean

It's ok. I'm guessing a bit, maybe someone more in the know could confirm.

This is a massively impressive performance from Alex T. His gybe may not have paid off as he wanted but at each schedule today he's consistently been doing between 19-20 knots ..... In a monohull! He seems to be demonstrating he is the fastest boat in the fleet. Someone said he just has to move up the leader board and not break anything? That's a massive understatement.... He needs to make good meteorological decisions too, but he seems to have the drive and the boat speed that could win. And the video Clearly shows he is enjoying it too :) Go Alex!!

Just heard via Facebook that Tanguy de lamotte (Initiatives coeur) has had some sort of rig/sail problem.

Oh dear... halyard snapped or masthead crane gone?
