i know cars are easy enough to run on veggie oil but what about boat engines.?

we run road vehicles on 5% already

Theoretically it will be better as small engines did lag road engines in emissions regulation(less sophisticated injector pumps), but they've caught up now I think, so modern ones like the VP DX-XX may be vulnerable to expensive lurgy(not that I'd advise running an engine with warranty left on SVO).

I ran my Citroen CX on 100% Rapeseed oil for a while with no ill effects.
The problem is sometimes that the fuel lines degrade with vegetable oils.
