I had a broken helm indicator last year and they were very helpful. Sent them the broken one and after about a 2 week wait they sold me a new one at full retail price too. Not quite up to Garmin's level, but then you can't really expect that level of service, can you.

I believe it's the sender that's gone. The instrument is the round analogue log. I will speak with VDO and give you a buzz. Thanks so much for the offer.
Does anyone have any instructions for the older analoge VDO log - particulary for calibrating. Siemens web site gives instructions for the new ones with the LCD displays but not the older ones. Oh and can you really pull the paddle wheel sender unit out without the briney coming in!
Mine's a digital one but I think they are compatible...
Piers, VDO should be able to tell you whether they are or not. Why not get Peter's unit and patch it into the back of your instrument head to check it. Might tell you whether the sender is really the problem without getting wet.
Yes, you can take the sender out in the water and yes the briny will come in but have an old towell handy to stuff into the hole with a small child to keep it there while you check your sender by hand spinning or replace it.
Guess what - called them at 10am today (Tuesday) only to be told please call back tomorrow since they are operating on a skeleton staff. I asked if this was a refelction on the age of the staff, but it was not understood....I think the saying goes "off my back like duck's water" or something.
Sunfury. I had this type on my Fairline corniche sometime ago now to set it up there is a series of numbers on the back of the head which you can alter the percentage of calibration to match the paddle to the boat etc, you need a chart to go with it, now I may still have it on my present boat, if not then you can try Andy Haines at Greenham marine in Lymington he can reprint it from a manual for a small fee.

Soi looks like everyone's having an extra few days Easter holiday.I've had my Rover 75 off the road now for 6 WEEKS, with the immobiliser gone and Rover main dealer can't get a new one. Decided today that I would have a full and Frank discussion with Rover HO in Solihull. Phoned their main number several times during the day only to be met with the answerphone telling me that "our normal office hours are 8 to 5 Monday to thursday and 8 to 12 on Friday. In an emergency please phone etc". Phoned the emergency number and no reply.
Makes you wonder at the state of Britiiish industry eh. Perhaps they've all gone boating.
Oh well better have another beer.

Well Im not allowed any extra hols, the wife says so, cut the weekend short and broke a halfshaft on the range rover pulling the boat out. Got one from the dealers and fitted the same day. Still serves you right for having a rover, nice car tho......for the older man
Why thank you for the compliment. It's an aura I'm trying hard to promote. Fed up with all these young girls throwing themselves at me thinking I'm some kind of pre-pubescent popstar. Seems I'm suffering from the same condition as Byron.
Time for another beer.

Oh and pleased you broke the Rangie. Perhaps you could spend some time on their forum instead of here? Hope the new half shaft cost you a packet;-)
Being a boating anorak is enough thanks, and its a rover all said and done so what do you think, Any way your not even as old as me so respect your elders and as far as Byron goes.... I dont think a comment is required
