With reference to Brexit and VAT on yachts, can someone explain the vat status should I buy an EU boat EU vat paid.
1. buy an EU registered boat and bring her home.
2. buy an EU boat, put her on the British register, then sail her home.

as a British citizen do I have to register on the British register or continue to own her on a foreign register.

thanks in advance

By all means buy the boat but when the boat comes to the UK you will have to pay VAT (again). Where the boat is registered is irrelevant.

In both cases you will have to pay VAT on entry into the UK.

Even if it was once in the UK, and had UK VAT paid, if it was in the EU on Brexit day, it will be deemed EU VAT-paid, and you will have to pay UK VAT on entry to the UK.
