VAT on Spanish Boat

I am seriously considering purchasing a used boat berthed in Spain from a private owner who also lives in Spain. The Bill of Sale shown to me states that payment was made in Euros including 'TTC'. The owner tells me that he bought the boat in France and that 'TTC' is the French term for VAT paid on the vessel. As this is the only documentation regarding VAT I am concerned that there is not enough documentation to prove VAT has been paid. Any advice would be appreciated.

Age of boat ?? and please for your own sake, get a solicitor involved ... loads around with international connections ... Eversheds is just one of them ... and I had good experiences with them when buying a boat in Italy ....

Further thought

On reflection, TTC probably stands for "Taxes toutes comprises" - i.e. all taxes paid. However, it's not a VAT receipt and will be naff all assistance in supporting any contention by you that VAT has been paid. You need the original invoice.

All imho. I am neither an accountant nor an IFA and my opinion is probably b*ll*cks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

No matter what the Bill of Sale says. You make sure you have the original receipt for the VAT payment, even a photocopy can be a problem if Officer Jobsworth sees it.

Byron is quite right. You need to have the original (not a photocopy) receipted invoice showing VAT/TVA paid. Otherwise you have to assume the boat is tax unpaid and reduce your offer accordingly

If its a non EU Manufactured Boat a French Customs Import Entry Form IM 4 required showing how the taxes were accounted for. If E U Manufacture idealy you will need to go back to the Original Supply Invoice as the TVA Tax may have been reclaimed by a supplier
