VAT nightmare

Thanks for the invite. I see what you mean. So basically I pay all this money for something I can only use for half the time. Bit of a bummer if I want to live on it.
You can use it but you won't find the answer here also north Africa isn't a NO NO , many including our self have used big parts of North Africa for many years.
We been living on board for most then many here in the Med and have no plan in chaging that .

So how do you get round this. Almost the whole of the Northern Med is EU. There are a couple of exceptions in the Aegean and most of north Africa is a NO NO. Or is it.
See post#11 which covers more or less the options open to you. However, in addition if you intend living on board, whether it is by taking up residence in either an EU country or Turkey, or wandering around avoiding the Schengen restrictions you may not be eligible to register your boat on the British SSR (the simple register that is only open to essentially UK residents). The boat must be registered somewhere and if you are a UK citizen you can register on Part 1 but this is expensive as it requires a survey and clear documentation of ownership going back 5 years.

Before you go any further with this boat consider the constraints you will have on owning and using it in the way you want and how these constraints might also apply to others. You may well end up with a boat that is unsaleable should you change your mind.

@Flyer295 Firstly everything that Tranona said is correct .
Tranona is a very knowledgeable guy.

Putting that to one side there no reason what so ever that you can do what you want to do and if you let people scare you and stop you with what's they posted here ,
it's best you safe your money and buy some golf clubs.
There much more you going to have to deal with as a full time liveaboard/ cruiser then VAT and 90/180 rule.

Has I posted before you won't find your answers here on YBW because people here will say one thing to sound like there are as white then white and in the real world do some thing totally different ,
thats in no way refering to Tranona himself let me say.

There are hundreds of british boat some living full time others part time and they be finding ways to keep doing what they been doing this year next year and the year after.

People being doing the Schengen dance for as long as the EU existed,
Your Vat problem, you need to look into the TL when it was issue then take it from there,
You have option.
registration plenty of option there too.

Join cruisers forum or Med sailing and you get the answers you need from people who are out there now cruising.

Its not all bollix what Tranona posted it correct but the more ways then one to skin a cat .
Sorry cat lovers
Agreed. Tranona is a very knowledgeable and valuable poster and was badly missed during a recent sabbatical. When one knows the letter of the law it's always easier to test how flexible it might be or how best to navigate around the obstacles. Unlike some of us Tranona doesn't seem to advocate being economical with the truth.
