Varnish for Spar

I am about to re varnish my spar and wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for a very durable varnish.
This is on a Drascombe Lugger

Yes, Classic Boat did a survey/ long term trial and Sikkens Filter 7 came out very well. I at the time was restoring Hilary Joyce (see: Missing Yacht) I used Perfection on the cover boards of my deck and cockpit and it was poor in that water soon got underneath it, meanwhile the mast and boom had the Sikkens treatment and still looks great to-day, ( on the mast that is ) that did not go down with the yacht.

The sikkens has one draw back, it does not have a gloss to it but I think it looks good.
