Vancouver or Rustler?

I have no idea about Morgans but Harleys have been massively updated. .

Doris - you've cheered me up. Harley - up to date /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Air cooled, steel tube frame, models with girder forks, weighing 350kg ....... I could go on but I wont. Harley survived cos that arch capitalist Ronald Reagan effectively banned competitor imports and they are as up to date as flared trousers.

Ditto boats with extended keels or long keels. The latter were a necessity when boats were made of wood, and with internal ballast. But nowadays with water ballast, canting keels, bulbs all on decent beamy hulls - a long keel boat is as up to date as a Morris Minor.

I almost agree about Harleys but the point you appear to be missing is that not everyone want a 200mph superbike. I've had all sorts of bikes for all sorts of riding. Two bikes every biker should own at some stage are a Yamaha LC350 and any Harley.

Likewise, there are all sorts of boat designs for all sorts of purposes. Long keel boats like Vancouvers are very good at what they are designed for ie comfortable passage makers. Not everyone wants a fat arsed, flat bottomed skinny fin keeled flyer, you know.

If you think the current ones are bad you should think about the pre Fat Boy ones!!! By the way the reason that model is called 'Fat Boy' is that it is the model that stuffed back the yellow hords. So the names comes from the 2 atomic bombs that did the same. Very non PC but still a cracker. My business partner has one, piece of [--word removed--] and I have a Honda. Say so more guvnor. And I completely agree with the first sensible comment about long keels.

ps. come to think of it, Ducatis have steel tube frames and other assorted agricultural atributes too!

BTW, the reason that I wouldn't let swmbo buy one last year is that I reckon it would be a waste for the type of sailing that we do. If we're going to spend that kind of money on a boat I want to be on it everyday, not leave it sitting on a mooring 75% of the time.

Nope, serious boats for serious sailing. Love 'em.
