I am currently on the hard next to a Vancouver 36 and hoping the owner will soon appear to prepare her for the coming season. I would love to have a good look at her.
She looks solid, well thought out, and so nice visually set off by a cruising mans dream of a cutter rig.
I know of thei pedigree and fortunate enough to poke around a 32 in Plymouth, but i would love to get onboard this one.
Are they as good as they look?

My is based in Plymouth and yes they are as good as they look. Powerful rig with displacement over 10 tonnes.

As good for what? Boats are like cars - no boat is good for everything. personally I reckon there are better and more modern cruising designs but I prize sailing performance. Neither the Vancouver nor my boat could hold a candle to many of the modern lot as a floating caravan though the pilot 34 is pretty good.

It's all a compromise.

One of my favourite boats.

Suberbly designed and feels like it will look after you no matter what is thrown at you, although about 30 knots gusting more is the max I have sailed one in.

I think you most probably mean the Northshore Vancouver 36 designed by Tony Taylor :

Lovely boats for sure!

However there was also a totally different Vancouver 36, designed by Robert Harris to be a smaller sister of the legendary Vancouver 42 (both double-enders) - here is one for sale :

And she looks rather nice as well.
In fact both 36's look very nice really.
