user options

Click on User Options.... then half way down the screen is three boxes, the top one for personal information, and to the right an Edit button. Click this and fill in what you want.

Are you saying that the screen doesn't change when you click on User Options?
It does for me. Sometimes the server is a little slow.

Thats right lakesailor ,i should have been clearer .The screen doesnt change when i click user options .I lhave left it for several minutes to see if anything comes up but screen is blank .I am assuming as JMKENT says that when up its an easy to navigate screen .May be i need to use contact us and explain my problem .

Have you tried deleting your cookies and trying again? .... does this make sense? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If not, tell us what version of Internet Explorer you are using and we can guide you through the process.

A "Cookies" problem I guess. Its no good telling you to expire all your cookies from user options though.

Have you tried logging out and then logging in again (or do you normally do that anyway)

Does the same thing happen if you log in from another computer? If it does not it points so something on your machine. Its is certainly not a problem that others are having.

You may have to delete all your cookies from "Internet options" but that is a bit of a pain as it will affect any other automatic logons you may have set.

Where is BrendanS when you need him. It might be worth PMing him.

BTW when you do sort this out beware that if you change anything in the "Display preferences" section it will revert to "Sort threads by creation date" unless you reselect "last post date"

Right, a solution to just deleting the YBW cookies....

1) go to START and then SEARCH
2) click ALL FILES AND FOLDERS on the left (green arrows)
3) in the filename box, type @www.ybw
4) click on MORE ADVANCED OPTIONS towards the bottom
5) make sure the boxes are ticked for SYSTEM FOLDERS, HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS, SEARCH SUBFOLDERS
6) click SEARCH
7) this may take the computer a little while to complete, and will find everything from YBW on your PC
8) now delete anything with reference to cookie, normally indicated with a text file symbol or cookie in the title... mine has found 3 references.
9) if you only delete the YBW cookies, all other sites will still work OK.

I would copy this, and close internet explorer first.

I hope this makes sense, but if unsure, DON'T go deleting anything.... I wouldn't want you to screw up your computer!

Hi Guys .Just followed advice from JMKENT and found two cookies which i deleted .I logged back into forum website ,clicked user options and -------------------nothing ,still gettiin blank page .I dont suppose it matters too much but I just want to be a sombody instead of anon !
Any more suggestions and i will give them a try .Just a thought -did i need to restart PC after deleting cookies beacuse I didnt do that .

No restart necessary. I'm afraid thats as far as my knowledge goes.... I'm sure Brendan (the resident IT expert) will be able to help you out though.

Could it be that your computer / browser is configured not to accept cookies?

If you let us know what browser it is, I'm sure someone will tell you how to check.

[/ QUOTE ] If that is the case then presumabably the automatic logon will not work. If it does not then that is the place to look but if it does then i think that is an unlikely answer .

Cookies doesn't look to be a problem.... he has found them, and deleted them, so should be starting a fresh. Definitely shows he can accept cookies though.

Sorry I missed ostra4's last post.

I have had difficulties though locating cookies that have screwed things up. There are temporary cookies in the same folder as other temporary internet files and there are permanent cookies in the cookie folder. At least there are with Win 98 and IE 6, with YBW cookies in both locations.

I am surprised he only found 2. I've got 4 or 5 in total. I think he should keep looking, but if it really is not a cookie problem could the security setting be causing the problem. Mine is set at "medium"

Brendan must be ignoring this, he has definitely been on-line recently. He did at one time say he would only answer computing questions in response to a PM because so many other other people jumped in with bum advice when he tried to answer them on an open forum.

I am not sure that this has anything at all to do with cookies. User options uses this URL

Click on that link and see if things work. Otherwise, try copying the link into your browser URL bar, and see if that works. If it doesnt, then you should go to Help on your IE browser, and report back what version you are using. Also, have you got Google bar integrated into IE? This can cause some funny results, and you can check that by removing Google via Tools, Manage Add-ons.

I don't think we know he is using IE, do we?
That URL does bring up User Options for me, but it's not the call showing bottom left of my screen when I hover over User Options, which also brings up User Options.
Try right clicking on User Options and then choose "Open in New Window"
or do the same but choose "Copy Link Location" and then open a new browser window and paste the link into the address bar (at the top. not the search bar)

Do we know that the automatic logon is working? He didn't mention any difference after deleting the "cookies" that he found, which (AFAIK) should mean that he had to log in manually. Maybe cookies isn't the right term, but the options URL is common to everyone, so would need to read & store info on your (his) computer in order to work. Really need some more info from the OP.

(I am not an expert).

Re: I\'VE SOLVED IT, I think

I have found the answer I think. Remember earlier today I suggested security settings might be the problem....and every body ignored me!

I have tried the changing mine from "medium" to "high". Guess what? I click on "user options" and get a blank page!
