Hi

found that I could upgrade my Garmin GPS III plus operating software by simple download from garmin.co.uk, only thing the manaul mentions is that this MAY delete all your saved waypoints.

Garmin sent me to www.gpsu.co.uk to download an excellent utility for saving all waypoints, routes etc. This software does alot more than this and works on other makes of GPS as well.

Having downloaded all my waypoint onto computer then upgrade my GPS operating system and because I had taken a back up, it had NOT deleted my waypoints.

As we are moving boat from Solent to Scotland I can now clear out all "old" waypoints and have them for my return and install another 500 for sailing around Scotland.

A very useful GPS utility give it a go.

regards

Hamish

There are actually quite a few utilities exactly for this without being overloaded ....

G7toWIN .... http://www.gpsinformation.org/ronh/g7towin.htm

is a good example of simple but effective waypoint storage / manipulation !

In the past in our GPS Nav group we have nbeen asked how to download from one GPS make and then alter / upload to another ...... answered - so join the group :

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gps-navigator/

and find out .....

Thanks Hamish
I downloaded the free version of the program and found it fairly easy to use.
http://www.gpsu.co.uk The only problem is it restricts the number of routes and the details of those routes so I will probably buy the full program.
I did find the G7towin program more difficult to understand and not as advance and I would not use it, but thanks Nigel for the reference.
