Used Prices cooling?

interesting on the VAT. I guess from Mallorca you would need to take it to North Africa?? Have no clue how safe that is what the marinas are like. Maybe would need to be Gibraltor instead? Saving on a £2m boat is not to be ignored (or even a £1m boat like Chris stated). Gibraltor would easily be £10k in fuel there and back on a 70 footer I would guess, maybe £20k.

I am wondering if a crossing from mainland Spain to (say) Mallorca could reset the 18 month TA.
The crossing is about 100 miles so you would be leaving EU waters and re-entering again.
Do you think that could be made to work?

A few years ago I read in “ Barche “ a duel language Eng / IT super yacht oriented mag something along those lines .
It was ok d in Brussels that a plotter or other tech reading / print off that showed the correct distance ( iirc 15 miles ? ) , would be ok .
This was for the handover sale VAT free outside EU waters , as well as shakedown etc .
It saves going properly outside to N Africa etc .
They could not do the deal at the yard as it’s considered in the EU and triggers a VAT payment .
How ever in international waters it’s technically not in the Eu floating about while the cash is transferred, so then drops into the temp importation VAT free scheme. A copy of its position on AIS was sufficient for this .
Pressure from SY builders and IT MEPs to stimulate the market or tear down barriers .

Vaguely cant’t remember if you could keep redoing it or it was just a one off by ?

There’s a guy on here crewing a Pershing 108 ? Berthed in Genoa and I recall late last year he took it to N Africa and back .

You should probably be looking to buy boats currently in Turkey. All non VAT Paid. basically a true market should suggest that the price of an equivalent second hand boat VAT paid and non VAT paid would be somewhere between the VAT amount on the VAT paid boat. So both parties benefit with the buyer taking the greater share.

The Welsh Med ? - so if a ‘friend’ of mine bought the said boat and allowed me to use it anytime that would be ok, and if I took the boat out of the UK once every 18 months to Southern Ireland it would remain VAT free and they could then have another 18 months in the UK?

Yes. I am sure the glitterati of the a south of France are looking forward to a week in Southampton !

How can they resist.
A week on the windblown and rainsoaked Solent enjoying English cuisine, the delights of everything available on UberEats or Deliveroo.
Are we ready for the rush of folks booking lowloaders back to the UK. ?

I tried to buy a used yacht last summer/ autumn and most were quickly snapped up, people were buying without viewing according to one broker, winter lockdown projects perhaps. Needless to say I didn't get anything. Don't know what the Market is like now.
