In the recent article on the Bavaria 36 - James Germain says that they use Wood Composite as the underlying structure rather than Plywood.

What is 'wood composit' Is it MDF???

He was implying that the ultimate longlivity of the boat depended on the underlying structure within the glassfibre hull, and that the quality (or lack of) of the furnitute wood work was not an issue given the low price.

G’day Chris.
The term ‘wood composite’ generally means the use of timber between layers of fibreglass. This is commonly western red cedar strips, glued together with epoxy resin, and coated with fibreglass inside and out. Very strong and very light, however ‘some’ surveyors are advising that this type of construction should be carried out below the water line, but rather use solid fibreglass.
Hope this helps.

My worst fears realised - it was on last night. I didn't notice any MDF, not too much attention paid to the efforts of Handy Andy but the furniture carried down the gangway looked like ply.
