Us Moboers may be in trouble again

As a raggie, I'd say that the constant "them and us" is a little tiring... I had enough of it from the dinghy sailors when I was a windsurfer..... we all have an enjoyment of "boating" after all.... :o

No..I disagree with you....it's not just a "little tiring"...it's really childish, divisive, unpleasant and annoying!

So it's working then? :D:D

Seriously tho, I presume you didn't read the thread. A strongly built 32' boat sunk, three in the water, one person prop lacerated & the others in shock (one was age 91).

This isn't about a bit of wash. It is a serious incident and happened in a marina where all boats need to be manouvered with care & skill. I don't know what went wrong but there will be at least an inquiry & there could be charges if any one was negligent.

Oh, and the Mayday call for assistance didn't come from either of the boats involved (one was sunk in 2-3 mins) but a passer-by.

Not enough facts to condemn, but certainly raises an awful lot of questions about what went wong. It's not that long ago that Haydn was rammed in a marina by a Yottie reversing into him at speed, fortunately there was no-one hurt & no boats sunk, but MF was hit on the davits & is a tough old girl anyway. It may have been a different story if she had been hit amidships.

Totally agree but unfortunately there do seem to be a few people on these fora who seem to enjoy trying to create a rift between boaters.
I hope the chap who was injured makes a swift recovery.

I was going to respond earlier, but really searush hit the nail on the head. This was a very serious incident and is not and should not be an excuse for raggie v mobo insults. Some folk have not only been injured, but had their lovely boat sunk which would have been traumatic, and a indeed a well laid up contessa 32 is not like punching a hole in a bayliner.

In many ways I hope that it was a malfunction that caused this incident, if it was just some idiot backing out of a mooring at speed without looking they deserve all they get. If this had been a reversed situation, i.e. sail boat backing out at speed sinking a mobo my attitude would be the same.

Boats are boats, I've sailed for 30 years and owned a Mobo for 10 years, while still sailing regularly. Unfortunatly there are idiots on Mobo's and idiots on yachts, idiots on PWC, Ribs, speedboats and even cars, in life you just need to be bloody lucky to avoid them.

It sounded horrid and my thoughts are with all concerned both sail and mobo, and hope everyone recovers soon..

I am sure we will hear what happened and why and if the mobo was at fault they should receive the relevant punishment..

Just not the correct place or situation to vent warped ideologies..

actually it's exactly like it really.

it would be very easy to envisage a set up that achieved all of this with very little speed at all - and not much movement either.

all it would take would be a large boat with a bathing platform and something solid (like a weaver davit), yacht passing very close - boat reverses, platform slides under hull tilting it suddenly and severely, before holing it under waterline.

I have absolutely no idea what actually happened - but I am just trying to illustrate that even a solidly built craft would be vulnerable in this manner.

As others it sounds a very sad incident; with a lot of questions that will no doubt be fully answered in due course.

Just to put this post into a little perspective I understand the mobo was like this, or similar -
