Urgent French translation needed - engine parts

Can anyone give me the french for "adjusting the valve clearances/tappets" please?

I tried freetranslation.com and suchlike but they do not do "technical" vocabulary well

a valve is a "vanne" and to adjust things is "ajouter", alors "ajouté les vannes du moteur" as a first shot. Non, pour chrissakes, dans la tete du moteur, avec les petit vis!...

Err I know it's risky to try and correct tcm w things frenchie but

a valve in an engine is certainly 'soupape" on the back of lots of cars eg 16 valve heads
my French translator gives adjust as 'ajouter' but in the sense of 'tune up' gives 'regler' or 'mettre au point' if you want the sense of fixing then try 'rectifier'

clearance comes out as 'deblaiment'

I reckion a chat along those options should make it clear

Thanks guys. I actually found this pic on the net so I emailed him and all sorted.

TCM, for ref it is monaco marine and SLduV, I like them and they have givien me a quote that is itemised to every last nut and washer, and itemised the hours by grade of staff, they are really pleasant bunch. but they speak little English and I speak little Frecnh, hence all this

The mechanic just emailed me. He said the french for this is "un réglage des culbuteurs"

So, culbuteurs are probably tappets.....

Here you go a bit late but my girlfriend is usually spot on with these things, this isnt tappetts but valves

Try:

"pardon, PLEASE ADJUST MY TAPPETS! sil vous plais?"

...increase volume until desired effect achieved.....

Thanks ocean for that! I just looked again at the pic above. I suspect if I'm not nice to him he will say "Vous avez dit un MGB, pas un Squadron, vous l'idiot anglais"

I'm sure it would. But if ever you want a race, you go to cupboard to find some blank paper, then draw, then and scan to create a pdf, and I'll type "adjust valve clearances" into google and click "image", and I think I'll beat you every time
