some up to date info for cruising around sardinia

Definitely recommend south west Sardinia route from Menorca. (Just need to watch out for the headlands on south Sardinia, can be generally unforecast strong easterly winds around the headlands themselves especially during the afternoon.)

Sardinia

Calasetta
A a lovely little town especially as we found unfinished quay to east of marina and fishing harbour, where we stayed free for three nights before being told to move on by Italian coastguard, which we did but until the next day, well he wanted our papers at 10am next day.

Porto Pont Romano
Has an official free quayside, town of Sant Antioco is a bit of a Portimao type walk (20 mins to good supermarket, 30 mins to town), but is very nice and has best supermarkets since Mahon, even a Lidl’s but that is a long walk away.

Porto Pino anchorage
Very attractive. Huge bay with long white beach with big sand dunes. A bit rolly for us but better than trying to get around Cabo Teulada against a 25-30 knots headwind. Next day motored around early morning in flat calm.

Porto Malfatano
Another great anchorage, particularly in larger west bay, very sheltered, single beach bar. Great snorkelling particularly on west side. Interesting 2m natural walls on sea bed!

Cabo di Pula anchorage, north side.
Nice enough place, Roman ruins worth a visit but probably much better with a guide. Check when next English speaking tour is. Anchorage can be very rolly though.

Cagliari
Well worth a day or two (or 12 in our case.)
Marina Del Sole very cheap for August, 1st two nights 36€/night, next 4 31€, next 6 25€. The longer you stay for the cheaper the daily rate. See Max (the younger dark haired chap) for best price , rather than his white haired father. Somewhat rickerty and not great showers/toilets, have seen worse though, but no problems when mini Mistral blew through. Other marina quoted us 60€/night

Sicily

Trapani.
Two sets of free red mooring buoys. More sheltered set close to old fort, just in front of Lega Navale marina. More details later.

hope its of intrest

We stayed in Villasimius marina for 1 night - average price for med at this time of year, 66 euros for 13.1m. Good facilities including a mini market, laundry service, restaurant, fuel, rib handlers who use the rib either as a fender, or as a tug.

If we had been staying longer, the area around Capo Carbonara seems like one of those places where you can anchor and get protection from any wind direction, and it looks very pretty.

Villasimius town is a long walk from the marina, so we got a taxi back for 10 euros. Well worth a visit - the main street is closed to cars at night.

reading someone's blog, it seems that it's OK to anchor of the marina and dinghy in for supplies etc.
