Upside down numbers

On page 102 of the April PBO, there is a photo of Andrew Simpson (I presume it is Andrew Simpson) measuring a length on a piece of wood. Being naturally right handed, I would hold the tape in my left hand and the pencil in my right hand - the same as Andrew is doing. But on every tape I have ever seen the numbers are always upside down?
Am I going mad or do other people find the same problem?

Most of us (right handers) would hold the tape in our right hand, lodge it aginst something, and use our other right hand to make the pencil mark.

If you do alot of work with a tape ( as I do) you will find you can read it in any position.

Chippie. You're right. It is no big deal reading the tape upside down but I have always wondered why the numbers are always orientated so that they read from the left. Is it just convention?

I think you are right , convention says we read from left to right so they make the tapes that way. IMHO
