I know that this might not be the place to post this but I'm now at my wit's end so.....
Here goes

My website is http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/regertonssite/BobsHomePage.htm
I have installed a Netgear ASDL 2+ Modem router model DG 834 N.
I have always used WS_FTP pro to upload to the above site with out any problems...
And loaded to the address ftp://ftp.myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ .
Since installing the Netgear router I now get the following error report..
Can anyone help or advise?
QUOTE
Can't establish a RAS connection. A connection to the remote computer could
not be established because the modem was not found or was busy. For further
assistance, click More Info or search Help and Support Center for this error
number.

There is no error number shown on the report and of course I haven't a clue what a "RAS connection" is….
IE explorer and Outlook Express work fine from both this PC (through an
Ethernet cable) and the Laptop by remote wireless link.
I've looked at the Netgear site and their FAQs and cannot find a specific answer to the "uploading" problem. (Plenty on not being able to get on line though!)
I've contacted my ISPs help/support desk and they're telling me to unload the Router and reinstall the modem and it's driver….

This scares me whatsitless; I had a long period when I couldn't get emails or surf when I first installed the router so want to avoid this happening again if at all possible.

It seems to me that the router probably has a firewall and that this firewall is stopping WS_FTP from getting through to my site…
I'd even shut the Firewall for the short time I'm uploading...If I knew how!

Any ideas in simple terms and monosybillic words would be much appreciated..

Thanks in Advance Bob E...

If no-one here can help, there's a forum on another IPC site called Webuser that might be worth looking at. Some threads in the "Networking and Wi-Fi" section mention Netgear routers.........

Link is here..... Webuser

If you're stuck and needing to upload urgently why not just use your browser and drag and drop the files into your web folders. You don't necessarily need an ftp utility. You did say your browser was working didn't you?

It might buy you some time while sorting the problem out.

RAS = remote access server

Your PC is still trying to connect via the old Modem to the 'net.

Dont panic nothing sinister going on.

Am I reading it right that its only when you try WS_FTP client that it does this ( since browsing still works ) ? If so then a quick solution may simply reconfiguring or re-installation of WS_FTP.

Try the connection wizard in WS_FTP first or perhaps the options.

You need to 'make a new internet connection

Not if IE and OE work fine - just need to go into the preferences for WS_FTP and tell it not to dial for an internet connection.

You men are the top's
I'll knuckle my forehead and buy you all pints whenever we meet... after sweating blood I just went to the WS_FTP and options and connect by LAN and away I went..
Dunno what an old bugger'd do without you youngsters to support me in my dotage..
Sorry to shout
BUT YOU ARE BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!
THANKS THANKS and THANKS AGAIN
Cheers Bob E.....
