upgrading to a fairline targa 47

Today I have a Targa 40 that I had in one season but is already in upgrading to a Targa 47 with Vp D9.

first, it's a tough feeling when you never feel satisfied with what you have, but you always want something bigger and newer, you probably know what I'm talking about ?.

My question is what you have to experience the Targa 47, 2006 to 2008 and, although it is something special to think about the vp D9 ?.

Also viewed Princess V48, 2005-2008 model year. but like targa 47 feels a little more modern

My second question is whether it is much harder purely economical to own a 47a versus a targa 40?

After working on a targa 40 last week removing some major components from both engines which at the same age of boat you would not be removing from a pair of D9s in any boat I've answered the question.

For another 7 feet it's like being on a different planet, I too am in the targa 47 market.

We have a t47 with 575s, have to say it is an awesome boat, we have been in some really nasty weather of all kinds and it has been truly brilliant, reassuring and capable. The only down side, and I mean the only downside is the exhausts are noisy, on a long trip ( we went from st cat to Poole ) you could do with head phones and music. We have a Yamaha 1300gpr jet ski in our garage plus a roll up rib, absolutely great boat , if you want any more info email,me .

Targa 47 With D9 is a sweet boat.

Every once in a while a boat builder hits a sweet spot the T 47 is the one.

Thanks for your answers, it appears to be a boat that most are happy with,

I live in Stockholm, the archipelago this storm is never so much as it does with you :).

Is there a big difference in the cost of owning a 47a versus a targa 40?

Fuel will cost you twice as much, give or take. Servicing will cost you half as much, again give or take. Obviously berthing, valeting, antifoul etc will all cost more just because the boat is bigger.
 
Well I understand it, only to fight on, but feel it is worth it to feel that special feeling to drive the rear targa roof and drift out to sea in a real boat and to avoid all chapels that I have today.

If the deal that I'm doing now does not go home here in Sweden, I am considering checking more in UK.

Can you recommend some reputable boat dealer who supplied fine Fairline there?
 
We are in our second season of owning at 2009 Targa 47. Having previously owned a Phantom 40, Targa 44, the 47 was always our dream boat and ticked all the boxes. As has already been said, Fairline hit a sweet spot with this and a few other designs around the mid 2000's and for me the T47 is a very complete boat in the sub 50ft category. The no expense spared approach to r&d that went into this boat and the high level of build quality inside and out is evident when you take one to sea. In terms of running costs as JtB has already said it's probably similar to your current, given the additional cost of leg services vs shafts. Our T47 D9 annual service costs are actually less than the T44's D6, given the cost of IPS pod servicing as well. Obviously all the other bits, berthing, anti foul, cleaning etc, will be greater. The other key factor will be fuel. We used to get about 1.2nm to the gallon with our P40 and T44, however this is now down to about 0.9 with the T47, which is still not bad as we're usually fully loaded and have a 300kg jet rib in the garage.
You also have to fill larger 1400 litres tanks (2 X 700).
However great boat in the rougher weather and I still find it difficult to find any used (or even new today for that matter!) boat in the 45 to 55ft market, that makes me want to change.
Please let me know if you want any further info, did an extensive amount of research on this model over the last few years.

"Bates Wharf" and "Burton Waters" are both Fairline dealers (for what its worth) and decent guys. Boats.co.uk sold over 500 Fairlines and carry a good number of used vessels in stock. But to be honest, most (if not all) UK boat dealers are established businesses and trustworthy. The crooks went out of business years ago.

If you are for an easy deal, speak to James Barke at Boats.co.uk as they have a Targa 47 in stock (Owned by them) http://www.boats.co.uk/boats-for-sale/fairline-targa-47-gt-1049 and I expect they would do a part - exchange on your Targa 40 and you could have the boat in January! I have done this many times with them and it has been so easy to moor the two boats together, move everything over and drive off.

As a stock boat you'd get a warranty and excellent back up service.
Until very recently they were the biggest fairline dealer so have excellent knowledge and good access to boats if the ones they have aren't quite right.
 
I am just about to complete the purchase of this Targa 47, having been assisted by VolvoPaul & Nick Vass.
Having looked around at various boats the 47 stood head & shoulders above anything else in my price & size range of £200k to 250k 45 to 50 foot.
The 47 offers massively more volume over a 40, is very planted in the water on shafts, and offers a socialable cockpit, and great accomodation with two heads/showers down below.
Am hoping that the older built quality,like a brick outhouse, will give years of enjoyment and that that the D9s on shafts prove to be low maintenance.
Cant wait to get the keys mid Jan

Congratulations on your boat purchase, it is really nice that boat has actually checked it on the internet here before.

May I ask what the final price was ?.

I live in Stockholm has very good control of the boat market here. and generally will take the Swedish boat owners care about their craft better one for their families :).

How much can generally bargain for a boat to buy in this price range in UK

I have transportation to Stockholm and then for it to be attractive in the market here, I want a real diesel heater, anchor stern and bowtruster in the back,

But the selection of these boats in the UK is huge.

Tetleys, coincidentally, the chap that bought that T47 new was also the first owner of my T40. Nice guy. Enjoy your new boat.
