Unusual Situation

Littlehampton Harbour is two blokes in a speedboat, a committee of volunteer local councillors, and a part-time admin clerk. I don't know how well-educated the cat is, but unless he's a feline John Mortimer, they don't have a legal department.
They do however need a named Data Controller as they're dealing with personal data.

The police are wrong.

Criminal Damage Definition - 1)A person who without lawful excuse destroys or damages any property belonging to another intending to destroy or damage any such property or being reckless as to whether any such property would be destroyed or damaged shall be guilty of an offence.
It was clear that no intent to destroy or damage was in place, even though, at the time, drink or drugs WERE suspected as the cause. Reckless perhaps in the case of alcohol or recreational drugs, but it appears it was a genuine medical incident.

The culprit has had the Estimate, has been in touch and assures me he will pay my GRP man directly.

Result, with the benefit that there were no injuries.

How are you guys David? Keeping well I hope. Best Regards.

Woke is a term used in the USA since the 1930s to mean aware of social injustices such as racism, sexism or LGBTQ discrimination. Not 100% sure how it applies to this incident.
Yes, to anybody with linguistic knowledge and a conscience “woke” is generally a complement.
It is just to some DM types it is lazy shorthand for “I am a grumpy old Victor Meldrew who hates anything post 1950” :)

And certainly Data Protection can’t be “woke”.

‘Woke’ is in nobody’s language a compliment. Just the opposite. You are muddled about that.

I think you'll find many youngsters rejoice in being woke, and mean it as a compliment.

But again, I don't see what it has to do with a situation where a harbour master used GDPR to not give out a person's details.

Cambridge dictionary - “woke - aware, especially of social problems such as racism and inequality”.
That is a positive thing to me. Perhaps you are the muddled one.

And things like GDPR simply cannot by definition be “woke” - if is a legal safeguard for privacy which applies to all people.

‘Woke’ was something of a mixed blessing to the Mississippi Delta blues.

An archetypal couplet might go like this:

“Woke up this morning” - Good

“Now I’ve gotta chronicle my poor life” - Not so good.

And according to my old boss ex minor rocker, you sing “ I woke up this morning” on tour and the next line is invariably
“And someone stole my guitar”.

( No blues singing on the tour bus)

What do I know?

Just to get back to my OP, contact was established and full payment of the estimate has been paid to me directly by the culprit.

All in all it cost him the thick end of 3K with the repairs to his boat.

I suspect insurance was not in place, or it would have been handled by the Insurance Company.
Glad to hear it's been resolved without too much grief
