No we didn't do a test per se, but I was at Lerins for 2 pretty windy days and nights (20-25kts plus) and the rocna held us steady through it all.. Don't plan to be out in that weather much again !! Reason we didnt go in is we have a very tight berth

Interesting. What were the seabed conditions? I have a Delta at present and I'm not 100% happy with it particularly in weed/sand

Sand. I only anchor in sand. My boat is a small trawler, so it’s short, fat and has very high windage.
I have never been out in very high winds. But with the Delta you don’t need high winds, it’s a plough, it does exactly what it says on the tin, it ploughs.
 
For anyone interested, the YouTube channel below uploads a tremendous amount of anchor tests. In anchor test video #100 he included an overall summary of many anchors tested. As mentioned in the video, there are very many different important parameters in comparing anchors so any single test will probably never be accurate. However, I think his overall approach is quite thorough so can be an interesting watch at times.

i have just purchased a new lewmar epsilon galv for my p54 ordered a 32kg not got it yet but deliver this week. Have a 25 delta as fitted by princess at present so went for the extra weight. And cost £555. I looked at ultra but 35kg was £2500 could not justify extra cost

Its a joke. £2.5m boat and they penny pinch on the anchor. To be fair though, all the motorboat builders are the same. They never fit adequate anchors, at least not for peace of mind overnight anchoring. A 62ft motorboat should have a 55-60kg anchor minimum

Not according to the sizing charts for modern anchors.
Seems that if you go oversize then the pull of the boat is insufficient to bury them enough so the anchor would not be working in the way it was designed to.
In one of the many anchor threads someone used a 12kg on a large boat and the anchor was buried so deep they had problems getting it back.

That might be a problem on a sailing yacht but I can’t imagine there’s an anchor out there that a Princess 62 couldn’t pull
 
Haha. .. what I should have said I meant was the weight of the boat when the wind or tide turns while you are asleep, and if that's enough to dig the anchor back in, or rotate it under the seabed if it's buried in the first place.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be harsh.
Yes - thats "kind of" how I set my anchor these days.
Pay it out as usual and then a bit of momentum to dig it in.
The boat is a little under 50 tons so that momentum seems to do the job.
Sometimes, I will add just a little extra reverse on both engines but for no more that a second or two.
 
No worries :D and since its an anchor thread then there is no definitive Facts, just opinions and experineces.,
I would love to see what your boat would do to a 20kg hybrid anchor, as in whether it would dive deeper and deeper or just pull out
 
I have to say, the anchor threads on PBO all seem to think that smaller is better, and in the case of aluminum lighter is better. But because it goes against common sense and experience I find it a hard sell, to me the bigger and heavier the better. And to me the only advantage of aluminum (besides easier storage as a back up) is that you can get an even bigger anchor for the same weight. Logical reasoning won’t sway me
