Sick of mudflats in Essex so want to ship my 46' flybridge down to Athens where my folks live.

So far have got a quote for £20,000 (yes twenty!!!) to have it shipped by sea from Southampton.

Needless to say twenty grand is a bit toppy...anyone got ideas about cheaper options or other ideas???

Cheers
Stefan

Hi
Try a chap called Lindsay on 01208-862179, he is able to take it by road and is very reasonable.

Why not truck it to South of France or Adriatic and make a holiday out of sailing it the rest of the way to Athens
Last year I brought a 48 footer back from the SoF to the UK for about £3000 but that was on a return load basis ie. you wait for the trucking company to tell you when they have an empty lorry going in your direction
Worthwile talking to Peters and May at Chichester for a quote

Thats bollocks!

A couple of years ago I moved 2 big ships' cranes to Istanbul via Felixstow on the deck of a Turkish container vessel.

I was surprised how cheap it was dealing direct.

I could look up the papers given some time - but why not call one or two liner companies and ask, I am sure if you go to the Port of Felixstow web pages they will have all the Pireaus callers listed.

I'd take it to northern France by sea, lifted out there and put back in on the other side. I bet French transport rates are much less than ours.

Oh.... And if you do find a cheap way of transporting it across France, please let me know cause I'd like to spend 4 months around the Greek islands in a couple of years time.

You could take it to S France by road as Deleted User says. About £6k for that size boat. They might only take it to La Motte or somewhere, to avoid low bridges. Or ship it by sea to Genoa or La Spezia. We did that recently for 58 footer, £11k, so I'd think 7 or 8k for your boat. Then you could holiday/sail it the rest of the way

yeah but...

...there's a time issue with this too, I can't afford to take what must be a month off to circumnavigate from Essex to Athens (paid a day rate - no work no pay!!)....also the idea of jumping from port to port...leaving it for a 'period' in Gib, then another 'period' in Barcelona, Nice Triests etc etc flying back in between isn't too pleasant a thought either

Just want to get it to Greece and finish with it...

yes all those prices are starting in chichester/southampton. Call Peters for road transport, peters and may or yacht shipping ltd for sea transport. YSL and http://www.zevenstar.nl shipped our boat no problem but they let tcm down (see other posts)
