UK ship registration

Our small ship registration is up for renewal. I’m wondering if it’s worth renewing since Brexit as unlikely to take the boat abroad ( to much hassle) what benefit is there in having it registered
 
From experience most marina offices request to see the reg cert ……to use that L figure to calc the tariff .
That way there’s uniformity and possibly an audit trail …….every one’s charged on the same basis and they can flash a copy for there records.

From my experience every marina office requests the registration certificate.
 
What hassle? It’s not exactly a major exercise to go and get your passport stamped is it?

It is if your in a destination that does not offer that service , Thats my take on it but happy to be corrected, some of the small ports we would wish to visit would not be able to stamp our passport or offer this service,they don’t always have a lot of vacancy’s for crafts over 16m so having to visit another to log in etc and then return to our intended destination would be to much hassle and expense for me to bother with , or is this incorrect and we could sign in at any port
 
I've never been asked for my SSR whilst in France or any other document so far. The marinas main concern seemed to be which berth in were in and credit card or cash!
Might go to France next year but they need to make this 'passport stamping' a lot easier first.
 
I know the OP doesn’t want to go to France...but to continue the thread drift, if a motorboat turned up without some sort of registration number on the hull...I think that would be viewed as suspicious and asking for a pull

I think we have different ideas of what hassle is. Try cruising round some distant areas of the world for real immigration hassle. Keep smiling and be patient is the only answer.
 
I find in Spain that they're more interested in passports and insurance.
Marinas for temporary stay in both Spain and France always asked me for the registration document.
I have only been asked for insurance for my yearly berths in Spain and France. But have been asked every time, and for every renewal.

I have never been asked for passports except for once by a customs officer when they were walking down the quay in Port Rosas in Spain. They also wanted the registration document but I told them that was in the Capitainerie. They then walked off. No idea if they did check the registration or not.
 
I have a French built, French flagged, French registered boat and have been boarded several times...and they want to see everything...from documentation to fire extinguishers...but not always everything each time

Never been boarded. But my boat is part 1 UK registered.
 
We’re currently in Spain and marinas have all want to see passports, insurance, and boat registration documents. Most have taken photos or copies of everything.

Very quick and easy. Compare and contrast with yachting into some third or second world countries. (And try to remember that some who were ex British colonies learned admin from us once upon a time!)

I have had my boat permanently in France for 8 years and visited France most summers for the preceding 17 years.

I have only been boarded once. That was in La Roche Bernard , on the Vilaine. There was a severe gale blowing so I guess they thought they'd have a day in sheltered waters.

It was all very polite and they seemed happy with the paperwork but the East Coast Mutual Yacht Insurance Association Limited policy document puzzled them a bit. However, even though they might not have understood it, I think they were reassured by the impressive name of the company.
 
In previous years pre Brexit Covid I was boarded in French marinas about every two years.

This year I was boarded twice in marinas, I produce passports and British Registration part 1 blue book, they look at that and ask a few questions no hassle.

I have emailed my forms in and attended passport checks in Carteret for two voyages, no hassle for St Quay - Portieux and St Cast just email the form in for arrival and departure no hassle works very smoothly.

As far as French customs officers muck them around and they will make life awkward, give them passports and Part 1 or SSR and they are happy, I amake a policy of not arguing with people with guns!

I have a friend who was find Euro 350 for having an out of date SSR .

Entry Procedure and Registration either Part 1 or SSR is not a reason to not visit France.

Thanks for the reply’s decided to renewed SSR £35.00 for five years ,small price to pay ,just in case we do require it in the future, I did ask about being registered on the SSR and based in Uk water, I was informed that it entitled me to fly the Ensign flag,
