Probably not in my (sailing) lifetime unfortunatelyThank you, that is useful info.
Unfortunately, crossing the North Sea or the Channel has become a bit of an obstacle circuit. We didn’t want this, but there we are. I hope we will see the day when all this is no longer necessary.
Once the Pleasure Craft Reporting Service app is running, you'll be expected to have an internet connection. It is not very seaman like to expect everyone e to have a mobile phone. This should be done over VHF.
And how far off land can you expect to get a 4G signal - not 12 miles surely? So in future in order to cross the channel or North Sea in a private pleasure vessel we need satellite driven Wi-fi routers. Yachting is not just for the rich but it soon will be.Once the Pleasure Craft Reporting Service app is running, you'll be expected to have an internet connection.

That means switching on roaming which was fine before we left the eu but now......From what the Beta testers have said on this forum, you have to use the app before you depart the EU, giving a Lat and Long and time for arrival.
There's no legal requirement to sail with a VHF either, it's a matter of choice. It is not very seaman like to expect everyone e to have a mobile phone. This should be done over VHF.
It's debatable whether it is 'neccessary', or it's a deranged, tyrannical response to a bit of seasonal 'flu.Thank you, that is useful info.
