I have never seen that video before. I had just finished binge-reading the Smeetons' four sailing books and was looking for more information about this remarkable couple when I found a link to the video.

Separately and together the Smeetons led remarkable lives in a world that already seems rather distant. The biography is very nicely written by Clark who was Smeeton's Godson.

Clark himself is also interesting. He took a yacht from Murmansk to the Black Sea after the iron curtain came down. Ultimately his is a very sad story.

White lead and tallow used to be applied to mild steel standing rigging on 'big' ships when I was a pup. The practice was frowned upon by some.
