Was thinking of fitting an easymatic two speed mainsheet system but not sure who makes it and how reliable they are. Has anyone any experience of these.

Surely you don't buy this kind of thing as a ready-made kit? It's just a collection of blocks and line as sold by any chandler.

Google (or Babylon) is your friend. Plenty of suppliers. See Force 4 catalogue p 115 for example.

The easymatic has a double rope jammer enabling two sheets to be handled simultaneously with one hand. Harken used to make one but it's discontinued. Making one up would result in something clumsy needing two attachment points and purchase of individual jammers. I would be very happy to be pointed in the direction of an elegant design which would fit my traveller. None of the options shown on the major manufacturers websites seem to suit.

Sorry, I misread "easymatic" as "asymmetric" - didn't realise it was a special fitting although now you describe it I know the kind you mean.

They are a great bit of kit. I know Allspars in Plymouth keep the blocks. Mine has an end to end splice on the sheet which is very handy. Not cheap but does give you purchace when required and easy quick hauling in and letting out for things like gybing.

The reason Harken stopped their twin cam cleat was, I think, because technology moved along.
I can't see the value in paying for a proprietary system which will at some time leave you grasping a fistful of assorted string. If two-speed systems are your thing, there are plenty of options you can rig using "idiot balls" and cascade blocks. The thing is, for optimum effect you need tapered sheets and at least a Bachelor's in needlework, because if you reeve the system without the correct twisting in the line, you would be better off with Tufnol blocks. Have a chat to your local Hobie guys or the Merlin Rocket chaps- they will sketch you a dinghy system that you can scale up, and better yet, get from your local swindlery!

Manufacturer : EASY MARINE (don't think they supply direct)

Here is a link to another supplier
http://www.seamarknunn.com/acatalog/Easy-Marine-Products.html

Well they have been around for many years. I had easymatic (blocks) for my mainsheet system on a 10m cruiser /racer and the rope I chose was 10mm dyneema, with the ends spliced together, which is the ideal situation if you are a racer.

There are easymatic size I & II, depending on your boat size of course.

In my experience they worked very well.

Cheers,

Michael.

Thanks for the encouraging info and the ebay link. Had a look at the austrian ebay site. The pictures are deceiving as they are listing each end seperatly. The total for the size 2 is not much less than the UK mail order price. Do any of you bother with an endless splice in the sheet.

I have a 'Harken' on my boat for many years. No problemss so far and hauling the main in when windy is easy. I would hate to go back to a single system. The mainsheet is not joined so easy to replace when required

Had one...and replaced it with a main sheet with fine tune, emulating the more modern style found on dinghies and ore German main sheet race boats

Whilst the easymatic was good, the fine tune is a world apart, so much easier to tune, quicker and cheaper to buy...I really would reccomend the newer design...even more rope to tweak

Hi ShaunG could you point me in the right direction for a diagram. Maybe I missed something on the Barton or Lewmar site.
